We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think COVID has taught us all about the importance of prioritizing health over everything. Since COVID, I’ve left the agency that I founded almost 10 years ago to focus on a coaching business that will be more compatible with the lifestyle that I want. I now sleep 8hrs/night, practice intermittent fasting, workout daily, and even have power down hours where I limit the use of my phone and technology. Something that is impossible to do when running a 150-person agency!
What should our readers know about your business?
Today I teach agency owners how to run their businesses more efficiently and scale. This includes design studios, development agencies, and other service companies. There’s a misconception that you only need a coach when your business is in trouble. That’s entirely false. I help business owners add another zero to their top-line sales. Going from 7 figures to 8 figures is an incredible challenge but helps when you can work with a coach who gives you some of the cheat codes.
Why am I doing coaching now after starting and selling two agencies? I attribute 100% of my success to my own executive coaches. Commoditization is rampant in my industry, and I’ve been winning the fight for years. I want to show other agency owners how to do the same, because more than ever, agency owners need help creating predictable pipelines. I know how to hunt for top talent and build a killer sales/marketing team that enables owners to take a step back. I’m really proud of this next stage because I’ve literally found creative business owners who will pay me to scream at them and kick them in the a*ss — Kidding! But not really. Ha!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely the beach. There’s nothing better than a Venice Beach outing at some of my favorite places like Gjusta and Gjelina. You can’t really go wrong with either! I also love Malibu and would recommend surfing at Surfrider Beach or even Zuma Beach. In terms of WeHo, which is where I live, there’s tons of great places on 3rd Street and Melrose. For food, I would probably say Rosaline which has amazing Peruvian paella!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my family. As the youngest of 4, I have found a new sense of responsibility to look after my parents – especially during this pandemic. They’ve supported my decisions my entire life, and now it’s time for me to look after them. After all, my dad is responsible for teaching me how to sell and gave me the confidence to get started in business when I was just 8 years old. From there, I was coding my first web projects by age 12. He’s where it all began.
