We had the good fortune of connecting with Benny Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benny, how do you think about risk?
When it comes to risk taking, I will always be 100 percent for it. Steve Harvey said it best “Life is about risks. If you play it safe in life, you aint going to have much of a life. Life is a risk, it takes courage to pursue your dream.” I try my best to live by that quote everyday. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified every time I chose to take a risk, but I’m so happy that I choose to take those chances in my life and career. I honestly do not think I would be where I am today if I did not take risks. One thing about taking risks when it comes to your career is you have to be willing to put in the work. When I moved back to Los Angeles to pursue my dream of becoming a host, I knew i was taking a big chance. I was leaving a good job in Las Vegas and stepping into the unknown. However I knew what my passion was, and what I wanted to do with my life, I worked hard and eventually started seeing results. To this day I continue to take risks, and there are times where I will question myself and ask if I am making the right decision, but one thing I always tell myself is, I would rather take a risk and fail, than not take the risk at all. The reason is because you learn and you grow from those mistakes, and you take that knowledge with you as you continue to pursue your dreams.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I recently started my own podcasts called Challenge Reality News. It’s where I talk about everything related to MTV’s The Challenge, but also talk about news happening in the reality TV world. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am obsessed with reality TV. To be able to talk about my favorite shows, and interview reality TV stars is a dream of mine. I am so proud of this project because this is something that I have started from scratch, and I can’t wait to see the levels of success it can achieve. Before I started my career as a host I was a news producer. I packed up my belongings and moved to Macon Georgia to work at the CBS affiliate 13WMAZ. Since then, it’s been a wild ride, and I would not change anything. This has been an adventure full of ups and down, but every decision that I have made has put me in the path to greatness. If I could give anyone one a piece of advice it would be to always follow the path that you know is meant for you. You are in control of your own story, and you have the ability to make your story iconic.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge LA guy, and this city will always be home to me, so whenever I have visitors coming from out of town, I’m going to show them a good time. The pandemic that we’re in would put some limitations on what we can do, but where there’s a will there is a way. I would first take them to Zuma beach as long as it was not crowded. That’s one of my favorite beaches to go to and just relax. We would also go to Runyon Canyon because the views are amazing. I’ve recently became a vegan so we would definitely get takeout at Gracias Madre. The food there is amazing. I would also just take them on random drives throughout the city, so they can see what LA life is all about. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a big shoutout to Keven Undergaro and Maria Menounos, the founders of AfterBuzz TV. They saw something in me that many people had overlooked. Once I joined AfterBuzz TV that’s when the doors to other opportunities started to open. That’s where I also realized the potential that I have when it comes to hosting.
