We had the good fortune of connecting with Berlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Berlin, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think outsiders are unaware of how much time and effort content creation requires. It is truly an art form that can sometimes go unappreciated. This is why it is important to like, comment, share, and save posts as much as you can. Those simple acts can help create opportunities for your local creators.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say that I am most proud of my clothing brand. I started designing clothes back in middle school but never had a way to execute my ideas. Then last year I got a Cricut and my life changed. At first, I was only making things for myself to wear. Then, I started designing motivational clothing with the quotes written upsidedown on the chest so that the wearer can read it. Designing the clothes was easy, producing them was not. I would go through third party websites just to get my designs printed and sometimes it wouldn’t come out the way I wanted. I also wasn’t making money for a long time. Then my homegirl started working at a T-shirt shop and after asking her a million and one questions I was able to figure out exactly what materials were necessary to start producing the clothes myself. My brand has taught me that if I want something done the right way I have to do it myself before hiring someone else to do it. It is imperative to own your stuff whether it be royalties to music, trademarking logos, or buying your own equipment. It is an investment to cut out the middle man, but you will always prosper in the end.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question. Day 1 is an acai bowl and beach day followed by glow in the dark swans at Echo Park in the evening. Day 2 is cliff jumping and burritos at Playa Amor. Day 3 – go Kart Racing and hang out at a view. In my opinion, some of the most fun things to check out are things I haven’t done before. I’m always open to trying new things but I’m also a grandma so I like doing things during the day and being in bed by ten

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all the creators out there. I see you, I hear you, and trust me when I say I FEEL YOU. It can be a struggle sometimes, going after something only you can see in your mind, but don’t ever give up on yourself.
