We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Stephano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have always seen and taken the risk. I felt that with taking a chance you will have a great gain on the other side. It is important to succeeding to another place or another level. Then comes all the opportunities that you could not have even imagined at the beginning of taking that first step.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After college I started as a layout artist and moved into a large Pharmaceutical company as an artist on staff. Creating many different pieces of art for video for backgrounds for scientific studies and symposiums. It was a fascinating role. But while there I learned of an internal advertising agency opening internally that was looking for art directors. I took the risk and applied. I was hired and on my way in advertising a career that took me all the way to New York City and many firms and positions there. All the while I was painting for small shows in Philadelphia in Old City and any gallery that would have my work for a show. It helped me balance life as a creative. It made me extremely fulfilled to paint. It was such a great free experience for me to do what I wanted to create. I realized that it was my true passion. So when I finally had the chance to take the risk to have a new career as a fine artist, I jumped at it, all in!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is a great I know exactly where we would go and the things we would do. First we would take a walk to our local beach where the sunsets are fabulous on the west side of Oahu at One‘Ula Beach. There is nothing more impressive than when mother nature paints the sky in reds and purples with the coast and palms in black silhouette.

We would then go along to a wonderful Thai restaurant, Olay’s in China Town for a fabulous Thai meal under the stars and lights of the courtyard.

The next day would be a trip up to North Shore where the views from the road are so impressive of the magnificent Waienea Mountains. You can almost see the bend of the earth from the highest point. The ocean with its endless waves moving toward the shore in white lines.

There is never a beach that you can’t find a new and explore for the day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I would like to thank my parents for letting me pursue an art career. They always made sure that I had teachers to work with at a very young age when most teachers might not want to work with such a young child. I don’t know how they convinced my teacher but I am so glad that they did. The local art center in my hometown, The Erie Art Center, In Erie Pennsylvania was such an inspiration to me with the instructors that they had to teach courses. It opened my mind up that there was more out there just waiting to be learned. My college experience was also fabulous meeting even higher level instructors that were working professionals at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. It set me up for a life in the art world which took me to many places and to meet many different creatives that would round my world out. I would mostly like to thank my husband Art, who has always been there to love and support me and my art career no matter where it took us!
