We had the good fortune of connecting with Shiloh Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shiloh, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The habits I feel helped me succeed are consistency, time management, and efficiency. Efficiency as in making the best use of my time every single day, and delegating/hiring help were I can to maximize output. Time management as in organizing my day, week, month, quarter, year in such a way that I am integrating goals and clear pathways to goals alongside working hard and sometimes long hours to achieve those goals. Consistency as in running the same process over and over again even when the results didn’t yield much. Approaching every circumstance as a lesson. Asking myself, “That didn’t work what did that situation show up to teach me and how can I be better for it.” And ultimately just working really hard. that was a very regular habit for many years.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ComplYant is a desktop platform designed to help small, micro, and new business owners understand and navigate tax requirements as well as budget and save for those requirements to prevent penalties and late tax filing. I think what makes us stand out is our approach to business tax. Most businesses think about business tax in 2 veins, either sales tax or income tax and nothing else. ComplYant thinks about tax more holistically we cover all 7 business tax types including sales, federal and state income, business personal property, business license, annual report, and payroll tax. We also work to achieve an education first approach arming business owners with what they don’t know but need to know to make the best business finance decisions possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh gosh, for food Harold & Belle’s as well as Margot’s, night life, PARIS TOKYO in Beverly Hills, for day time fun LACMA and the African American Museum, if football is in season catch a Rams game, or Lakers if basketball season. The beach of course and brunch in Manhattan Beach. And a trip to LA is not complete without a hike through Fern Dell to the Observatory.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shout out to Grid110. I did this pre accelerator program in early 2020 before raising any money. Because of that program I was able to get a really solid handle on foundational startup knowledge, build amazing community with humans that I still connect with to this day, I was also able to meet our very first investor Austin Clements. Grid110 changed the trajectory of my startup. Honorable mention to Anna Barber who was the first person in the LA tech community that I met and really helped champion intro’s and support.
