We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
There are several habits I prioritize as an individual pursuing a rather difficult career. First, I need to take care of myself outside of the industry in order to really give it my all. That means having outside hobbies, a community that can allow me to step away from the auditions and rejections from time to time, getting enough sleep, and making sure my basic human needs are not put on the back burner. Second, I have found that establishing a routine has made a world of difference. Actors don’t tend to get a a clear cut schedule or routine we can rely on, so it’s helpful for me to create one where I can. I make a small daily to do list that is manageable and realistic for me to accomplish each day. I also set larger goals that I can chip away at and look to for motivation. Most of all, I think consistancy has been the most important factor when it comes to success. It is by no means an easy career to establish, but being consistent and always looking for new opportunities has yielded the best results thus far. Truly I think it’s all about establishing little habits that become second nature to help it all feel a little less daunting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The tool I rely on the most as an actress is empathy. The joy in acting is getting to appreciate life experiences that don’t always reflect my own. It allows me to discover connections that we don’t always realize are there and tell stories that are universally shared. It’s really exciting to explore the psychological component of walking in somebody else’s shoes to build a well rounded and honest character. This passion for empathy and storytelling set the foundations for my career and have informed each project I have worked on up to this point.

From a logistical standpoint, I work to make meaningful connections with people in the industry, stay driven and consistent, and keep fueling my passion for storytelling with classes and different creative outlets. It’s certainly not an easy or straightforward journey and I have many career goals ahead of me that I hope to achieve, but I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish thus far. I feel as if this industry offers new challenges and obstacles everyday, and although it’s easy to get overwhelmed by them, I have found that the best thing to do is to just keep going and carry on regardless. Especially on the days when I feel the most stuck I try to check something off my to do list, no matter how small. I have learned a lot about how to stay driven, positive, and how important it is to focus on the little wins.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always find that when people come to visit it’s the best time for me to discover new things/places in LA along with them. Maybe not glamorous, but they can absolutely tag along to our weekly trivia and get drinks with some of the amazing people I have met since moving here who have helped to make LA feel a little bit more like home. If they want to get outside I might take them with me to the Culver City stairs and then get some coffee afterwards. One of my favorite things I did when my brother came to town was make a list of the top ten doughnut shops and taste test them all. SK donuts definitely took the cake. We may toddle around Melrose Trading Post, or go to a rooftop bar by the beach. I really take it as an opportunity to try new restaurants and check out neighborhoods I have explored as much just yet.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have always been very lucky to have a large community of people who support me. My parents absolutely deserve recognition for being the most supportive people out there. They encourage me always, get excited with me about the little things, and whenever I need a little bit of a boost they are right there telling me exactly what I need to hear. The rest of the list may be too long, but my four siblings, three best friends, and boyfriend are beyond supportive and loving. They offer the best advice, cheer me on no matter how small the accomplishment, and are constantly rooting for me. I love each and everyone one of them with all my heart. They all make it a little bit easier.
