We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Zimmerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debbie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For myself on a personal level, I really feel my success has came from my inner persistence or strength if you would to not give up or make excuses to reach my goals. After growing up in a less fortunate family in a small town in Mountain Pine, Arkansas I realized I had to rely on my own self to get even the basic needs in life. Unlike most kids of my age that took for granted having a car, college education, medical care and more. These hard times helped me master my tenacious way of thinking.
The success of our agency, Spa Connections, is really by staying focused on the niche we cater to, which are amongst the Top 100 Richest People in the world, celebrities, athletes, thought leaders and more. The type of clientele that could afford to pay for services with anyone they want in the world. In addition, we invest in learning about they’re unique likes and interests to continue to deliver the level of service they expect. Keeping up with the health and beauty requests for our VIP clientele is a lot of work, which I feel my persistence to always have the industry leading technicians and deliver a 5-star experience will be continue to be the contributing factor in our success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We bring massage, makeup and more, 24/7, right to your door. Spa Connections has been delivering on-demand, on-site luxury massage, beauty and wellness experiences since 2006. Originally dedicated to serving Los Angeles’ top hotels, Spa Connections has evolved to become the go-to agency for customized individual and corporate events, music videos, photo shoots, celebrities, weddings, spa parties, royalty, professional athletes, private jet services and film and editorial styling.
Our agency has really become a local name in the area and known for providing last minute spa service requests and having the top talent for our technicians. Unlike the other app-based companies, our agency literally will match up the clients specific request to our staff member. We always ensure the client experience is 5-star and often times will arrive at your door in less than an hour.
We are most proud of how our agency is known for only providing 5-star experiences. Our technicians go above and beyond to make our clients feel like they are in a spa session but at their own home. Some of the feedback from our clients, ” Best massage I have ever had” or ” My skin looks amazing”.
My journey to become a business owner was a long road to get here. It was not easy at all. I had no idea 20 years ago I would be doing what I am doing. Not in a million years! However, the skills that I acquired in the other fields were beneficial as I learned how to network, work with others and deal with customer service issues.
My biggest challenge in the process was trying to find what my passions were. How could I make money and work for myself but have a sincere passion for it? That was the hardest and I tried other industries and found out real quick what I liked, loved or even hated to do.
My biggest lesson learned is how you have to hold staff members accountable for their actions. This was really hard at first as I have always been a people pleaser in life and tend to avoid confrontation. I had no choice but to point out the areas that need improvement as our clients will not accept less. Our agency has a special bond and we really do work hard to push one another to our highest potential.
Our agency is more than just about providing a massage or manicure in your home. We take pride in every single session that we perform, these sessions are often energetic, healing or therapeutic. The level of trust you have in our agency means so much.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fun week in LA would be the following: Monday-

Thursday- Venice Beach for a bike ride, See all the fitness buffs, Then headed to Abbot Kinney for drinks and early dinner
Friday- Hike the Malibu Trails, Lunch at malibu farms and then a late dinner at Nobu or Mastros in Malibu.

Sunday- Santa Monica Pier and 4th Street Promendade
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Taking the leap of faith and becoming a small business owner was always an inner goal of mine, however I think I struggled with the confidence of believing in myself that I really was capable of actually of doing it. All of my life I worked for someone else and had to quieten the creative thoughts that I had. For over two decades working in the corporate world I found my way out Little did I know one of my best friends and now today my husband, Scott gave me the confidence to be “my own boss”.
Scott was such a support system to me in so many ways. He took me to business and self growth seminars to help me prepare and network with others so I would connect and gain confidence in myself and learn more about business opportunities. Some of my favorites- Tony Robbins, Grant Cardone, Ed Mylett and more.
I am pretty sure that I would not have taken the risk of leaving a corporate job and working for myself if it was not for Scott. Even today, he is a understanding partner with my day to day stress and long hours of owning a business. I guess you can say I married my business mentor and my best friend.
