Meet Bianca Beers | Artist, Designer, Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Beers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve been working for myself for the past 4 years; luckily I’ve had the space for an at-home studio which has made it super easy, but on the flip side also means there’s less of a definition between work life and personal life. Because of that, the first 2 years I was spending almost every waking hour on my craft, which was probably necessary at the time but honestly left me feeling super stressed, resentful and burnt out.
Experiencing that, I now ensure I have a pretty equal balance and make sure I have time to socialise and relax. But if anything, I feel the majority of my time is actually spent on the “work” of keeping myself mentally happy and healthy – cos I don’t make good shit if I’m not. That’s stuff like meditation, journaling, affirmations and daily gratitudes. I’ve had mental health issues since a very young age, so I think making sure I’m happy and balanced takes extra work compared to the average person. It has to be done but yeah I consider it the groundwork or foundations of my career as a whole.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my business about 4 years ago – at first it was a side-hustle while I worked fulltime in retail selling sneakers. After 2 years I was making enough money to quit the day job and focus on my art, which is what I did.
It was actually a really easy transition for me, although I didn’t have money, connections or industry experience, I somehow managed to make those connections effortlessly and within a couple months I had Nike as a client – which came from a series of fortunate events. I was a really good sales person at my sneaker store, so good that national management knew about me. They heard I was starting art and offered an (unpaid) gig designing their Valentines Day campaign. They shipped it to all their accounts (Nike, Puma, Asics etc) and a couple months later Nike hit me up. I honestly owe that to manifestation and good karma.
Once I had Nike, I put that shit on my website and from there started booking more big names!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, I’m from Sydney Australia and imo the best joints are the nature walks and national parks. We have stunning forests and beaches all within an hour from the city, so I’d say spend a day hiking the Royal National Park then a dip at Wattamolla beach. Wattamolla is a super secluded beach at the edge of the national park, complete with not only a beachfront, but also a river and a waterfall. Loves it.
Next, one or two days shopping designer and boutiques in the CBD; finish day one with sunset drinks at Bar 82 (retro bar that rotates high above the skyline for 360 views if the city) followed by dinner and drinks at Mejico – my favourite place to eat. The next night, a bridge climb over the harbour bridge then dinner and drinks at Opera Bar followed by a show at the Opera House.
If you’re feeling boujee and enjoy French food, dinner at Hubert’s is great too. It’s low-lit, super romantic, and there’s always a beautiful live jazz band in residence. Same day you could do a massage and facial at SpaQT – phenom.
Next day, breakky at The Grounds of Alexandria then a day in Newtown — full of second-hand stores, preloved designer and littered with amazing places to eat – I like Arabella’s (Mediterranean feast joint complete with hookah and live belly dancers) or Bangkok Bites (really fucking delicious Thai) then ice-cream at Messina. Finish off with some live music at The Bank or Enmore Theatre.
On a Saturday, you could check out my favourite art gallery White Rabbit, then head to Glebe Markets for the buzzy vibe and amazing vintage finds. Lunch or dinner at Mamak is cool, the joint doesn’t have much of an atmosphere but the food is great (make sure to get the butter roti and banana roti for dessert).
That’s all I can think of right now. I feel like I focused way too much on food, my bad!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout my ex Brizz who pushed me to get back into art after a decade away from it
