Meet Bo Li | Sound Artist & Sound Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bo Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bo, do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
“Budget, what budget?” is already sound effects for me.

Talking about finance is a challenging topic for many artists, including myself. When I was working as a full-time freelancer, it was like living in the dream. When I had some savings, I just poured them into new gear or software. It is a lie to myself. It makes me feel I am a better sound designer because I own certain toys, but in another way, I see it as a priceless experience. Those toys really output some confidence, possibilities, and experience to me. With all the outcomes.

I didn’t know the audio is also addictive… I am happy to practice what I learned from 12 years of education, but the price is very depressing sometimes. My “land-loud” (partner) often bangs on the door and teaches me how to behave like an adult in many aspects, certainly including finance.

So talking about budgeting as an adult, I always keep a word in my mind “Bo, you don’t need any of these in your studio to make a good sound design or music. All you need is just the ear and mind. Just like how you started yesterday”. Do you really need that to make a design? No, absolutely not, maybe it saves some time, but the reason why people hired you is that you know how to make it from the scratch, and they didn’t try yet. Save the money for people who you love, it makes me much more accomplished, I feel like I am supporting someone, and that just makes me happy.

Another tip for budgeting for audio-related business is to buy used and build a modern post-production facility that could cost a fortune, if you are experienced and know how to distinguish the good and bad apples then add the keywords into the watchlist to the website list below:

you might get some surprising results with your patience. Again, in most cases, you don’t have to have that piece of gear right now to be the winner of the game. Hollywood production tells us, the main character in the film always suffers a lot because of the suffering, which is why that person is the main focus, well, sometimes it might be a badass monster, but hi, you get the point. And meeting people is always a fun experience for me; most of the time is a great film, but sometimes it is a horror film. If your accident gets the bad apple, no worries. We are all there once, but make sure you are meeting in a safe place or let someone know where you are going. Nothing can be more important than your safety!

Second, as for the software, buy from different markets, and check out the market in China or India, or the EU. I bought iZotope Everything Bundle from Taobao for only $600 on Black Friday. If you are in audio, you know what I am talking about. I know what you want to ask, but I redeem all the codes on the iZotope website, and it is upgradeable. This is just an example, but you might need to know Chinese or Hindi or make a friend who can speak and read that language. Again, creativity is all about sparking different spirits. They might have some restrictions for purchasing policies, but you get the point.

Last, ask xxxGPT. By the time you check out this article, it might be something else, but AI can offer many interesting options for you. Let it be your assistant. Money, money makes me excited,

No, I am just kidding (｡•ᴗ-)_, I am still in the early developing stage of my career, but I often feel happy when people need my skills or appreciate my efforts., Feeling needed makes me closer to the creative industry; it is a positive message!

I believe that started early this year, my focus and my happiness have shifted toward more maturity like health, family, and stable life, but everyone has their film and their own story to explore, I can’t wait to take a challenge and watch the next episode, and I will appreciate for what Bo Li has been worked so hard for me.

Hi stranger, when you feel unhappy, try this – multi-universe exists, and the mass is always conservation. All the phantoms are just an experience, and it is OK because, in the end, it is just an experience. Maybe another version of you is getting lucky now, be happy for yourself!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The magic lake: 34.345504,-118.409338, so this is a place you can see the real magic silver lake, and you can only see it at night. And this lake does the flash thing! Be careful. The gate will lock around 6 PM.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my life, I am truly blessed to have numerous heroes who have shaped and guided me. Foremost among them are my parents, who have laid the foundation for everything I am today. Their unwavering support and unconditional love provide me with a unique strength, empowering me to conquer any challenge that comes my way. They have taught me resilience and determination, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

However, just like in any epic tale, there are also evil dragons lurking in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to strike. These dragons may appear in various forms, growing increasingly aggressive as I journey through life. But despite their menacing presence, I refuse to surrender or be deterred from pursuing my path of art and spirit. My parents’ teachings and the inspiration of other heroes in my life have instilled in me the courage to persevere, even in the face of adversity.

I am immensely thankful to all the heroes who have played a role in my life’s story. From my teachers, who have nurtured my curiosity and ignited my passion for learning, to my friends, who have offered unwavering support and companionship, and even to the strangers whose acts of kindness have touched my heart – they have all left indelible impressions on my soul. Their unique sounds and spirits resonate with me, becoming an integral part of who I am today.
