We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Torrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bobby, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Being yourself and staying true to yourself. People can sense Authenticity and I believe and hope that when folks watch my videos, they can see that im having fun talking horror and see my personality shine through.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created my channel because I didn’t see too many people that look like me that talk about their love for Horror films. YouTube is such a huge platform and though there’s a bunch of other creators that’s killing it with their reviews, there are very few POC that are creating horror media on YouTube and I wanted to be a inspiration for another POC to have their voices and ideas heard.
Since doing YouTube for 3 years now. I have so much fun talking about what I love. With doing that, it opened up the doors for other opportunities and lead to collaborations with other amazing content creators.
There has been some challenges as far getting enough people to watch and subscribe to your videos, because YouTube algorithm is so weird. But honestly I just want my videos to reach someone and make them feel inspired or even entertained.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh!!! I’m from Philadelphia and Philly have a lot of things you can do. I would take my best friend to an awesome Sushi spot on south street that recently fell in love with. There’s so many beautiful areas you can eat outdoors, so Sushi outdoors near south st would be a idea. Right after, we head to a bar in the gayborhood for amazing drinks, people, & music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes! I would love to shout out Kill The Dead Podcast for being the first podcast to have me on and let me have a voice on their platform. They’re so personable, Fun, and make you feel at home.
Also, Xero Gravity! Xero has been a unbelievable supporter for the Black Horror community and her cosplay costumes are 🔥!
