Meet Bolor Saruul | Actor | Writer | Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bolor Saruul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bolor, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As an actor, taking risks is the name of the game! It’s risky to just even decide on this career and yet, thousands of creatives do it everyday. The biggest risk I’ve taken is moving to Los Angeles without knowing anybody here, to pursue my acting career. The older I get, the more I understand that most of the gnarly fear behind risk is made up and inflated by our own minds. So the worst thing that can happen is you’ll fail? So what? We still have to do scary things. Not only because it’s important to get out of one’s comfort zone, but it’s also because staying stagnant means your comfort zone gets smaller and smaller, like a contracting bubble. And the most rewarding experiences of my life happened about because I intentionally took that risk (even though I was shaking with fear). Do that enough times and it builds your understanding of who you are as a person. So taking risks is necessary for this career and for life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m lucky to have had roles that are fun. Most of my work and experience is in theater which has given me so much understanding of how to craft a character as well as how to tell a story to a live audience. I’m proud to have played some strong characters that were not race-specific and also a lot of comedic characters as well. Because it’s theater, that means I can turn up the dial on the physical comedy and understand the energy of the audience every night. It’s exhilarating and worth the hours and hours of practice it takes. Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that knowing oneself is what makes one a strong actor. I used to believe the idea that actors have to “lose themselves” in their role in order to play the character truthfully but it’s not the way for me. Being confident in who I am is what lends me to be confident in the character I’m portraying. Another lesson I’ve learned is that life is so abundant and that actors (and all creatives) have to enjoy other things outside of acting. Take a dance class, yoga, go hiking, paint, or do anything for the specific purpose of it not being related or contributory to your acting career. It’s healthy for your overall happiness and mental strength.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Universal Studios, the Grove, ArcLight theaters to catch the latest films, and then to the Hollywood Wax Museum. And then to Malibu beach where we can grab some seafood from one of the eateries. I’d also drive them up the Hollywood Hills and watch the city at night. LA is so beautiful and it would be a very busy week trip!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Shoutout is to Kimleigh Smith, my manager from Embrace Your Cape Management! Meeting her has been pivotal in my acting career and life. It’s truly wonderful to be able to speak honestly and have yourself be heard! So I thank Kimleigh and EEYC for accepting me as I am and connecting me with wonderful and exceptionally talented actors and creatives who inspire me.
