We had the good fortune of connecting with Boy Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Boy, why did you pursue a creative career?
From an early age, I was invested in anything related to art, whether it be music, animation, filmmaking, etc. My parents, being creatives themselves, were extremely supportive. I was also homeschooled, so I had a lot of time to practice music and film, which became my two passions. When I figured out that you could pursue creative endeavors for a living, I was all in; I really had no other backup plan, and I’m super thankful I chose this path.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So, my journey in music really started as a side hustle while I was heavily involved in video production. I began experimenting with music production early on, but it wasn’t until later that I realized music was my true passion. What sets me apart is my ability to fuse my skills in both video and music, creating unique experiences that resonate with people. I always approach music with a sense of what the visual might be, or how I cant paint a picture with sonics, lyrics or both.

I’m most proud of how I’ve managed to carve out my own path in the music industry, especially considering the challenges of balancing it with my video work in the past. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I’ve learned to roll with the punches and adapt as things shifted. When the pandemic hit and my focus moved fully to music, everything started to fall together. Suddenly, I found myself diving headfirst into this new chapter, which led me to an incredible mentorship opportunity with producer duo Stargate whose credits include ( Rhianna, Beyonce, Sam Smith, Coldplay, Dominic Fike and many more), and that mentorship was what really propelled my music career forward.

Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and staying true to my artistic vision. There were times when it felt like I was juggling too much, but I never lost sight of my passion for music. And now, I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

What I want people to know about me and my music is that it’s more than just notes and lyrics—it’s about creating connections and emotions. Whether I’m working with up-and-coming artists or collaborating with established names, my goal is always to craft something that moves people. And with each step forward, I’m eager to keep pushing boundaries and sharing my art with the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OK! So we’d probably have to do some major hopping around because there are so many amazing spots. We’d probably hit East LA first and bop around Los Feliz, Echo Park, Silver Lake and Frogtown. Coffee and Breakfast at Spoke in Frogtown to get started, then hit Bodega Park in Echo park for probably another coffee and their amazing food (I’d probably suggest the Turkey Avo sandwich or the Wings) We’d obviously have to go see the Griffith cause you have to and then end the day at 4100 in Silver Lake, or if we wanna go chill probably Covell (They’re wine selection is amazing). For the rest of the week we’d probably go catch some music at Zebulon or Gold Diggers. And then we’d have to hit Venice and grab a bite anywhere on Abbot Kenny (Can’t go wrong with anything down there but Gjelina is incredible). So much to do so little time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Man… I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of my closest friends and family. To name a few: Tara, she’s always pushed me to take risks and go after my goals, even when it seemed crazy. J. Morris is the guy who got me back into music fully back in 2011, and without him, I don’t think I’d be where I am today. Alec Zeilon is my closest collaborator and friend; we work on 99% of music projects together. He’s an absolute legend. The list could go on, but it would be extensively long, lol.
