We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad Jenkins and Mark Daugherty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brad and Mark, what principle do you value most?
Brad: I’d say kindness is the principle that matters most to me as a business owner. I put that in the same bag as respect, and we work hard to operate our business on that principle as well. The entertainment industry can be fairly unforgiving, in a lot of ways, with actors facing constant rejection or disappointment, anxiety and stress, or others’ egos. Mark: I agree, and I’ve found that what works best for us is to meet people where they are and to try our best to lift them up, whether it’s just checking in with them, offering words of encouragement, or simply offering a smile or laugh.
What should our readers know about your business?
I think what sets our business apart from others is our commitment to helping nurture and grow our actor community by leading with our hearts and by providing high quality services at prices that reflect the reality that most actors in LA aren’t celebrities. They’re regular people working shift jobs or contract labor. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to chase their dreams without worrying about paying their rent or buying gas to get to an audition. We had some struggles, mostly with rental spaces! But we’re very humbled to be able to say that leading with our hearts and offering kindness has given us quite a return from our community. Business-wise, I’ve learned that it’s important to stay true to your principles and your mission, but also be respectful of your own boundaries and your ‘no’ when necessary. What we want people to know about our brand is this: if you’re serious about acting being your dream, we’ll champion every win, lift you up if you’re down, and run along side you to help you grow and achieve your goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Brad: Oh man! I’d say definitely Griffith Observatory (huge geek here), the beaches of course, venture up to Lake Arrowhead and maybe Vasquez Rocks (again, nerd here). For eats I’d go just about anywhere in K-town for KBBQ and Eagle Rock and Silverlake because they’re a nice mix of foods. I think that LACMA and the Broad are really great day trips as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to shout out to Shannan Reeve and Chelese Belmont at Beleeve Entertainment. These ladies have been our rocks and our tireless sounding boards for us personally and professionally. Beyond that, they are hard-working, heartfelt and compassionate, and creating content that showcases the beautiful diversity of humanity. We’d also like to shout out to all of our clients who make everything we do special and important. Thank you for letting us be part of your career goals! I (Brad) would like to mention the book Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie that really helped me to focus what is important in any venture: focusing on what you give back to your community rather than operating solely to make profit.
