Meet Brandi Aguilar | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t choose to be an actor, it chose me. It’s the reason I was put on this earth, to tell stories through my performances. It is my calling and I have to follow where that calling takes me. If I don’t, it is a huge betrayal to myself and my soul.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others- That’s a good question. Well, for one, I hustle, I feel I have good work ethic and have given up many nights I could have gone out with friends to shoot a comedy skit or film an audition. Hustle is everything in this business, without it, you’re not going to succeed. What am I most proud of? Every part I’ve ever gotten. It is HARD to do, you’re going up against SO much competition. So yes, when I book a role, you’re damn right I’m gonna talk about it day and night, I worked my BUTT off for it! Right now, I am most excited for the traction my drama digital series CREEPER has gotten. I produce it and star in it and film it alllll by myself and people seem to like it. The series has a combined over 100,000 views on Facebook. 17 episodes so far. I also do voiceovers and am really excited on furthering that as well. I’m about to make my voiceover demo. I have a few movies coming out next year. How I got to where I am today? My hustle, learning the craft of acting, a good support system, and forming good working relationships with good people in the business. I also feel I am good at self-promotion, which is a must have these days. And, my openness to learning new things. I would say acting as a kid was a lot easier and slightly more stress-free because your parents are kind of there to protect you and pay for your headshots, haha. And you can just leave school when you need to film something. As an adult, I do worry about getting the days off from work to go film something, but it’s always worked out. And I now have to pay for my own headshots on top of rent! Haha! The lesson I’ve learned is you are your biggest advocate. No one is going to hold your hand and do the work for you, you have to get out there and not be afraid of rejection. You have to have thick skin. And, audiences are not always going to like your performances. So be open to criticism and accept it. I don’t know if I like having a “brand”, because I don’t feel I can just be lumped into one box, there are so many layers to me and so many different things to me, and I don’t want to be a one-trick pony. I like showing that I can play many different kinds of roles. I have movies, TV, commercials, voiceovers, musical theatre, Shakespeare, modeling, I do it all. That being said, even though comedy is subjective, I do hope people feel I’m funny and that I can make them laugh, my strength is definitely comedy. So that’s why I wrote CREEPER, because I play a scary, mentally unstable character, completely opposite of some of the comedy I’ve done.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live 2 minutes away from Magic Mountain, So yes, you’ve gotta go to Magic Mountain! We would def ride all the roller coasters. And if that friend pays me $5000 I may confront my fears of going on the Superman ride…no less than $5000 though! Haha. Oh, and the beach. You cannot go to California without going to the beach. The most beautiful beach in California I have personally seen was Laguna Beach. Wow. It was out of this world beautiful. The water was literally a shade of blue I have never seen in the ocean before, like a jade. It looked like a magazine. Hollywood. You cannot skip Hollywood! For obvious reasons. Venice Beach. I’m a huge fan of the Doors and Jim Morrison, and back in the 60’s, Jim Morrison used to hang out a lot on Venice Beach. So I’d like to think his spirit is there watching me…maybe even checking out my butt..HAHA! I would not mind Jim Morrison checking out my booty 😉 I love all the stores and hilarious people at Venice Beach too. I also love San Diego, so we would drive there. I would also take my friend to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the one at the Nuart Theatre in Santa Monica is the best. It is so fricken fun. Oh and PATRICKS ROADHOUSE. My absolute favorite restaurant in L.A., it is right on the beach and is super retro, which I love, since I have always felt I was born in the wrong decade. And, the food is very delicious.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, they have been extremely supportive since Day 1 when 9 year old me told told my parents I no longer want to take dancing lessons, but instead want take acting lessons. My family is my rock. They never discouraged me from my dreams and they celebrate every success with me, and are there for me for my failures as well.
