We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m the creator of the web series, PLUGS. It’s a comedy crime drama starring two best friends and roommates: Jeremy and Tyrone, and gives insight on how two best friends enter into the shroom selling business. Along the way, Jeremy and Tyrone meet a variety of odd and unique characters while discovering the dangers of being criminals.

I honestly started writing the first episode for PLUGS with the goal to just practice writing stories and screenplays. It took me a long time to write the initial script, probably about 6 months. After writing it, I was pretty satisfied with how it turned out. and I realized that I wanted to attempt directing it. While I did graduate film school back in 2022, the entire process of making that single film from pre production to post was my greatest lesson in filmmaking. While it was an extreme challenge, I put my all into making the film, and from what people have said, the passion shows. My biggest words of advice for anyone wanting to work in any artistic field is love what you do, and never give up, because the passion will show.

Currently the first two episodes of PLUGS are released on YouTube with the final two episodes currently being crowdfunded on GoFundMe. I hope to transition PLUGS into an actual television show after the writer strike is finished.

Due to the quality of my web series, I was given the opportunity to write for the WeTV narrative, ”KOLD X WINDY.” The staff writing position had me working alongside a team of talented writers and producers with all of the writers required to come up with ideas for the first season while also being required to write their own episode. I wrote that entire script during my last semester of college and while I was in the middle of production of Episode 2 of PLUGS. Just know I got little to no sleep during that entire period of my life.

What is the most important factor behind your success?
My philosophy towards PLUGS is quality over quantity. I take my time with each film and project that I’m working on, making sure that it’s at a quality that I’m satisfied with. I use ever resource available to me into whatever I’m working on to make sure I make the best possible project that I believe the audience will be happy with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Los Angeles fluctuate. According to my friends I’m always going out and partying. I went to this one club a ton this year called Apt 200, but some of my other favorite bars are El Cid and Tenants of the Trees. Lately, I’ve been enjoying quiet time watching tv shows and movies at home.

In terms of food I lovee Mediterranean Food with Zankou Chicken being my favoirte place right now.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think the first group of people that I’ll shoutout is my parents. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without their guidance. I also want to shoutout my best friend from back home Chicago, Tago who sparked the idea of making a series of multiple short films that tie together instead of just making one single film
