We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Villanueva, R.N. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Justin Villa Care, LLC was created from my passion of taking care of seniors and the necessity to improve my own quality of life.

After spending 14 years as an owner/operator of 10 board and care homes for seniors in the South Bay, I was diagnosed with cancer and my life was turned upside down. There was a crossroad of prioritizing my life or my business and I decided to sell my business in order to focus my energy on getting healthy. My treatment was successful and in order to regain my life back, I took a two year sabbatical to refocus on myself and my family.

Well, two years was enough to realize that I was too young to give up on my passion and in 2006 I started Justin Villa Care, LLC to provide in-home caregivers for seniors. It gave me greater flexibility to serve families and use my nursing experience to provide solutions on helping seniors stay at home.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Justin Villa Care, LLC is a California licensed in-home care organization that provides compassionate caregiving services to seniors in the South Bay and surrounding areas. We help seniors stay at home through services, such as, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, transferring, incontinence care, and Alzheimer’s care.

Reasons families feel confident hiring us:

– Owner and supervisor with 40+ years as a Registered Nurse with a specialization in cardiac care.
– 30+ years experience in the senior care field.
– Hands on ownership and management team.
– Liaison between client’s family and medical team.
– All caregivers are employees and all payroll and taxes are handled by the company.
– All caregivers are extensively trained and vaccinated.

We understand that deciding to use outside help requires a lot of trust and humility, so we are committed to not just capable care, but compassionate care!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things to do in the South Bay is hike around Palos Verdes. There are stunning views and the hikes are perfect for a leisurely stroll. I would then head to lunch at the fish market in San Pedro and pick out some local fish to be cooked right in front of me. Then I would enjoy it watching the ships go by with a nice drink.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe my success to my aunt, Esther. She was an Assistant Dean of Nursing and she was the first person in our family to become a Registered Nurse. She paved the path for myself and all my cousins who became Registered Nurses. Calling her a “role model” just scratches the surface of how much she has provided our family. We wouldn’t be where we are today without her.
