We had the good fortune of connecting with Antoinette Marie Bristol and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antoinette Marie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to become a muralist because it is a unique career. I believe I offer a different style of art, fair pricing, and I love to give back to the community as much as I can. Being a muralist gives me the opportunity to do what I love, while making a difference in town.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a mixture of beach art, sunshine rays, ocean animals, and everything in between. I hand paint every single mural and sketch with chalk beforehand. Every piece is painted with a paint brush. I understand spray paint is easier and faster. but I’m an old school artist. I believe in the saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I don’t cut corners, and want to be remembered as, “an artist who perfected her craft.” Every mural I paint is made with love. Every mural is previously measured, I always have a blueprint, and I take pride in my work. I hope it shows in my art, because these walls are what I want my kids to see when they’re older and I want them to be proud of me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take my best friend Angie to grab a sandwich from my favorite local sandwich spot called Busy Bee. I’d take her to royal palms to eat while we watch the waves crash and locals surf some waves. I would walk around with her and chit chat with other locals doing the same thing while they have a beer or two. The weather would be sunny and breezy, and we would enjoy the day in San Pedro.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
