We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Jolie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bri, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up my mom let me explore a lot of different things. I had been involved in everything from Tae-Kwon-Do to Pottery. I attended an audition at 6 years old, my first time singing from sheet music and first time memorizing a monologue…I did my first play and never looked back. I performed pretty much my whole young adult life then in college I studied choral music and was involved in a dance organization on campus, but my focus was mainly on a “real” job. I majored in Mass Communications and my goal was mainly securing a job in that industry and I lost sight of my passion. After a few years post college, many failed jobs and a lot of soul searching I decided that I needed to follow my heart and pursue what my calling was. This is when I finally decided to PURSUE full time! As a creative we have a duty to God, ourselves and anyone who supports the art. I felt like I was doing a disservice by not doing what I was called to do. My gift belongs to God and I’m so glad I get to use it, I am following my heart’s desires and inspiring people along the way which is very important to me!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like my art is ever-evolving as I am evolving! I am very true to who I am and I always want to depict that in my music. When I have a vision, I will do almost anything to make it come to life! I am very proud of myself for executing as much as I can without a major label, management or anyone helping me fund all that it takes to be an artist. I believe with the right team, resources and determination you can achieve what these “major label” artists are doing! I am most excited to see how far I can take this myself.
This journey was not easy by any means and I still have so much more to experience… However I just take the detours as lessons and build off of them. My story is still being written but I want the world to know that I won’t ever stop chasing my dream whether I get 100 streams or 1000000 streams the goal stays the same. remain humble.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
L.A. has so much to explore! I still have some places I want to see! But my perfect day would be a nice morning hike at one of our many trails (but an easy one lol) and maybe hit Eat This Cafe for brunch! Bottomless mimosas and Truffle egg toast. unmatched. After Brunch maybe hit the Broad museum for some dope art vibes or a bike ride by the beach, I love the ride from Venice to Santa Monica. There are so many dope eats in Santa Monica so I would probably find a dope lunch spot with charcuterie. haha I love charcuterie. Rosenthal WIne in Malibu is one of my go-tos for new wine ! They also sometimes have food trucks and live music! While I’m in Malibu I HAVE to stop by the beach because you can’t just be by the ocean and not show love! That would just be a day but i’m very adventurous so you would just have to hang out with me and see : )
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe everything to God but on an earthly and now spiritual level… I owe everything to my mother! She is the reason I am the artist and the woman I am today
