We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Brister and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, what do you attribute your success to?
Remembering that this is not about me. It’s about others always. I am not a health coach because of what I can get out of it. I’m a health coach because my life was completely transformed and now I want others who are unhappy with their body or mind to know that there is freedom on the other side of saying yes. That they can experience the same things that I have. That they don’t have to be tired or unhappy with their body or be addicted to food or emotionally eat. If I just focus on me, it’s easy to give up when I’m tired or don’t feel like it, because I can give up on me. But when I think of all of the other people who deserve to live a life of freedom too, I can’t quit.
What should our readers know about your business?
For me, my primary focus as a health coach has to always be on people and helping them believe that they can create the life they desire. I have to constantly remind myself that I can’t want it for them more than they want it for themselves, but I also have to help them believe in themselves. I often tell people “Borrow my belief in you until you’re able to believe in yourself.”
My health coaches and mentors have been so incredible in helping me to step into this role as a health coach and learn how to best support people on their journeys.
Growing as a person and a leader is never easy, but is always worth it. The mindset shifts that have to happen and breaking through doubt and uncertainty consistently is hard work.
As a health coach, I have to often ask myself not “What do I need to do to help more people?” But “Who do I need to become to help more people?” I have to constantly be pursuing personal growth in all areas in order to become the best version of myself and to help others believe it’s possible for them too.
The biggest thing I want people to know after meeting me is that’s it’s possible. Whatever you’re wanting to do in life is possible as long as you don’t give up. And you deserve. You deserve to be happy and confident and have joy in every area of your life. Oh, and drink some more water. 😉
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Venice beach boardwalk/skatepark is my go to always. I got 3-5 times a week to walk around. I usually have my camera to capture some street photography, so when friends visit, we always go there.
Definitely shopping on Abbott Kinney. Greenleaf ChopShop has many healthy food options and there are great coffee shops nearby, though I’ll always be partial to Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia in that area.
We’ll hike Runyon Canyon at Sunset.
We’ll walk around downtown and check out The Last Bookstore, ride Angels Flight, grab food or drink (or both) at Grand Central Market. Walk through the art district.
LACMA is fun and we’ll shop on Melrose Ave. Melrose Trading Post on Sunday is one of my most favorite places. Since we’re there, we’ll grab a coffee at Alfred, because it’s the best in L.A.
Definitely having brunch at Met Her At A Bar, but might as well have dinner at Met Him At A Bar.
I’ll try to convince them to do some hot yoga at Modo Yoga.
If they’ve never been to L.A. we’ll see the Hollywood sign and walk the Walk of Fame. Maybe see a show at the Hollywood Bowl. Or if we could ever figure out how to get tickets to The Magic Castle. 😂
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my health coaches, Jeff + Candi Silvestri. Without their love and care and living their lives out loud, I never would have know all that was waiting for me. They completely changed my life.
