We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Chorski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Being outside doing anything active, really. Moving my body really helps my creative juices flow – whether it’s during or after. I always feel like the best version of myself when I’m cycling, surfing, playing soccer, hiking, etc.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a photographer, I’m most proud of my ability to elicit a “lived in” feeling of images. Making photos has always been a secondary function of getting outside and enjoying life, which helps a lot with creating images that feel that way.
I learned a tough lesson several years back when I prioritized image making over friendships and romantic relationships. I was trying to be perfect and that’s just not how the best art is made in my opinion. Letting go of full control and embracing uncertainties has been instrumental to how I make photos today.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a walk around Elysian Park and the neighborhoods in the hills of the Eastside of LA. Everett Park is a great place to bring some takeout/drinks and watch the sun set on the city’s skyline. Love it every time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, my dad. He’s always encouraged and enabled me to get outside, introducing me to the world of recreation. Without that push, I wouldn’t be a photographer for a living today.
