We had the good fortune of connecting with Briel Emani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Briel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was very simple, I knew I wanted to work for myself in about the 6th or 7th grade. The last job I worked at was Macy’s before I gave birth to my first born son. I knew i wasn’t going back after my maternity leave. I had to do what I knew best. That was doing hair.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started doing hair the same day I learned how to braid at the age of 7. I always loved going to the salon and thought my hairstylist was so cool for doing what she did. I’m excited about my growth and the many things I have in store! I am very big on customer service and my clients having a great experience while they’re going through the entire process of getting their hair done from consultation to leaving with instructions for maintenance. I have always admired great customer service when I went anywhere, even just to get some fish from the meat market, and I always knew how I’d want my clients to feel dealing with me. It wasn’t easy but there’s always a learning experience to growing the business. As I venture out into new things there will be other things I’ll be learning along the way. I’ve learned to always do what feels right and that I don’t have to feel guilty for taking time off. I want the world to know that you can do anything you put your mind to, always do right by people, and always be yourself!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Covid has killed all of my dreams of going out lately lol, but I would definitely go to Cheesecake Factory for lunch , 26 beach for brunch , Disneyland for a full two days so we can get on every single ride, the LA county fair for a full day, the beach , and downtown to shop because, why not?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shoutout my family, fiancé, and Dr. Kari Williams for being a great support system and always showing up and showing all the way out! I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for them!
