We had the good fortune of connecting with Brigitte Park and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brigitte, why did you pursue a creative career?
At first pursuing photography was a way for me to have a creative outlet while in college. Taking people’s pictures and giving them a moment in time to treasure made me continue to pursue photography and incorporate more of my creativity through styling and makeup. I continue to pursue these passions to help people see the uniqueness of their beauty.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography is exclusively film and I put an emphasis on styling and makeup for the shoots I plan. I’m proud of being able to connect and create with so many different people through the medium. A recent accomplishment is having a magazine offer to publicize my photography which was a big deal for me. It has taken a lot of practice and patience to get to where I am now but it is just the beginning for me. It hasn’t been easy but asking for support and just believing in myself has been such an integral part in being able to overcome challenges. I would like the world to know about how dear I hold photography to my heart. As well as the passion I have for taking pictures of everyone in their individuality and uniqueness. Everyone deserves to be able to look at pictures decades from now and remember the moment in life they were taken, the emotions, their circumstance in life, etc.. and be able to reminisce fondly.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best spots in the area for me are the ones that there aren’t many people around. The quieter beaches, the peaks that are only reachable going up winding paths on the mountains. But in the busier areas there are so many amazing small businesses in the area that serve amazing food and drinks it would be easy just to walk around Santa Barbara and stumble upon delicious things!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t have accomplished what I have so far without the people who were willing to let me take their pictures and the friends who have supported my photography and encouraged me to continue over the years. Without them, I wouldn’t have continued and to find purpose and passion within photography. Some people in particular I would like to recognize are Sharon Martinez and my brother. Sharon has continually been such a huge inspiration to me and has always been such a great person to collaborate with, I like to think that she has helped me grow significantly as a photographer! My brother has helped me navigate so much of adulthood and I wouldn’t have managed to have made it far in life without his wisdom. He still continues to support me even today and he and my family are the reason why I work hard and strive to be the best I can be.
