We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Photography has been an integral part of my life from an early age, influencing both my academic pursuits during my undergraduate studies and later shaping the foundation of my own business. The motivation behind starting my own venture stems from a deeply personal experience. Like many who have endured the loss of a loved one, I sought a meaningful outlet to process and channel my creativity. This led me to establish a platform, Atelier Holmes, where I could not only express my artistic vision but also pursue purposeful and intentional creative endeavors and relationships. Photography has afforded me unique access to events and individuals that I might not have encountered otherwise, providing a profound sense of connection and purpose. Over time, Atelier Holmes has grown to collaborating with like-minded creatives and being a part of critical life moments for our clients. Together, we have crafted beautifully styled bridal editorial’s: further fueling my passion for bringing talented individuals together to create something truly special. Atelier Holmes will continue to evolve into different creative avenues and the framework for setting up my company allows us this flexibility.

What should our readers know about your business?
Atelier Holmes is a multidisciplinary studio specializing in wedding and bridal fashion photography. Early in the wedding planning process, we help translate our clients wedding creative goals into a cohesive design plan: offering custom mood boards, personalized photography experiences, and style guides for pre-wedding photoshoots. To maintain a client-centric approach, we intentionally limit the number of weddings we photograph per year. This strategy allows us to dedicate ourselves fully to each couple’s unique vision, ensuring we understand their priorities before arriving on their wedding day. We believe that building a sustainable, client-focused business is about delivering value-driven results and creating an unforgettable experience. By supporting our clients throughout the planning process and fostering strong relationships, we ensure every couple feels heard and celebrated. Atelier Holmes is committed to investing in each couple’s story, and celebrating their love through both photography and design.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Los Angeles for its vibrant energy and endless opportunities. The food scene along Vermont Ave embodies Hollywood’s legacy of creativity, filmmaking, and the arts through Hollywoods classic lounge environment. A perfect night out starts with drinks at The Dresden Restaurant & Lounge, followed by an intimate dinner at Figaro Bistrot to unwind after a day of exploring West Hollywood, and galavanting through the museums in downtown Los Angeles. From there, we might head to a themed night out at No Vacancy, Good Times at Davey Wayne’s, or LA Descarga. The next morning, we’d enjoy brunch at the Malibu Pier, followed by a relaxing afternoon at the Getty Villa. The following day we will arrive for rope drop and enjoy a day of leisure and thrill around the Disneyland parks: enjoying the Disney magic and fireworks. Los Angeles has a unique way of transporting you to another world while still staying connected to the city’s vibrant pulse through it’s built environments, people and the arts.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Before founding my own company, over ten years of learning from the corporate world is where I gained invaluable experience in project management, client relations, and the art of delivering design excellence. This background has seamlessly translated into Atelier Holmes, and I am deeply grateful to those who have shared their wisdom and expertise with me along the way.

I owe a special thanks to Ariel Nunez of Magnolia West Photography, who graciously allowed me to shadow her during a couple of her client’s weddings when I first started in 2021. This experience provided me with a comprehensive understanding of industry standards, preferred camera equipment, and how to effectively support a wedding timeline through photography services. I also want to express my gratitude to Sarah Peterson Photography, who generously shared her knowledge of the business side of running a wedding photography company, including establishing client management systems to ensure a smooth and positive experience from contract to final delivery.

Growing up, my parents ran a successful company, and I have always admired their entrepreneurial spirit, strong business ethics, and unwavering support for each other. Their example continues to inspire me today. I am also incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful husband who co-leads the business side of Atelier Holmes.

I am so grateful to have been given the education and opportunities to capture weddings and bridal fashion both locally in Los Angeles and internationally.
