We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Fischer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I usually don’t allow myself to look too far ahead in the future as life has so many unexpected twists and turns. I just put one foot in front of the other. I think ultimately if you find a way speak to people by creating a beautiful image interwoven with a message people will respond to that. I do feel like I am currently on two paths with my art. One path is pursuing my botanical paintings and the other is bringing attention to critical issues we are facing in the world. I was surprised at how the career I thought I was heading towards had taken an unexpected turn to helping bring attention to political and social justice issues. How could I not use my artistic voice to fight against the injustices set forth by the Trump administration? In my heart it just wasn’t a question. I had to use my art to create an awakening. We can never know our true paths but I fully embrace the natural course that my career is on and where ever that may take me. I never dreamed of being famous. I am happy to have the attention focused on the artwork and not on me personally. I just hope to look back on my creations with pride. To me that is a successful career.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think I am most proud about taking an unexpected political stand with my art. I am inspired to lead by example so that my daughter has a Mom who is a strong female roll model. That is really important to me. For her to be proud of her Mom and for her to feel that she can follow her own path in life whatever she may choose to be or pursue.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have two shoutouts. First, is my husband Chad who is my rock and my support system. He is amazingly creative and artistic himself. He is also a super talented musician/composer. I bounce ideas off of him and he listens, encourages and inspires me to grow as an artist. I would not be where I am today without his love and support. I am so grateful for him. Second, I have to thank both Amplifier Foundation and The Creative Action Network for their support and promotion of my art. They have both been invaluable to me as an artist by helping to get my art out into the world.
