Meet Brooklyne Baker | Storyteller & Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooklyne Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooklyne, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Somebody, somewhere is depending on you to do what God has called you to do. I love this quote so much because it reminds me of the interconnectedness of legacies. Your “yes” will spark the “yes” of the person coming after you. It ties into my other favorite by Ava DuVernay, “If your dream only includes you, its too small. The calling that someone else’s purpose is directly attached to mine is my biggest motivator.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a writer, currently studying and working under Syreeta Singleton the showrunner of Issa Rae’s new show “RAP SH!T.” I got the film bug after watching the show “Insecure”, and once I graduated I got my first industry opportunity through The Nate Parker Foundation. They really introduced me to the ropes and gave me the connections I needed to be successful. Then, I did script coverage for Nate Parker, started proofreading scripts for my mentor, Calvin Brown Jr., directed and produced music videos, worked on a docuseries featuring Bryan Stevenson, and wrote my own short films and pilots along the way. I’m blessed to now be working and learning directly from the very women that inspired my dream. I hope to be that for the next. While cultivating my dreams of film, I birthed a nonprofit “The Good Girl Movement” 5 years ago. We started as a blog, with me being a writer, to now expanding to being on 10 college campuses serving their schools and communities alike prioritizing the wants and needs of Black women nationwide.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a nature girl, so I would take them to my favorite nature trail- Fern Dell Nature Trail. Then, we would go to the Santa Pier, I think its the cutest place ever! Then, we would hit the record store, Soundsations, is a dope one! I love tangible goods that hold history. Thennnn, I guess we would need to eat lol I would probably doordash some Chick-Fil-A, I need to do better with that. But when I’m being my highest self, My 2 cents has dope vegan soul food. Then, I would take them to a meditation class at The Calming Spot.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
B3, is my heart, spirit & soul. My two sisters Brianna & Brax birthed by my powerful mother, Letricia. They are my story broken into 3 parts. We were created for each other. Shout out The Good Girl Movement and each good girl that dedicates their energy & time to prioritizing the needs of Black women and girls while becoming their highest selves.
