We had the good fortune of connecting with Calabama and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Calabama, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe very strongly in taking risks. Fortune favors the bold is what I go by. Taking risks has played a big role in my success, I don’t think I would be where I am without them. I make a point to not listen to nay sayers and negativity. Believe your gut, trust yourself and your ideas, take the risk.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think community and communication is what sets my business apart. I believe in making everyone feel welcome and special. I love southern hospitality vibes and I try to bring that with me at every event. I don’t think there is anything easy about how I got where I am professionally today. It was a lot of missteps, and experimentation. The dedication and devotion to building a better life for myself, by way of creating something I love, is what kept me going. And the challenge of it all. The desire to be self-employed and quit bartending was the goal. So while I was building my business, developing recipes, and running pop ups, I was also bartending at night. It was so hard! Doing late nights back to back with early morning breakfast sandwich pop ups every weekend!
But I kept at it, for years. Wondering when I could, or if I would ever, be able to leave the bar life behind.
Some of the harder lessons I’ve learned, is having consistent discipline and embracing the concept of “going all in”. I think I would want people to know that I built my brand from the very bottom, from nothing. That it took about 10 years and its just now gaining traction.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
