Meet Cam Calloway | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam Calloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cam, what are you inspired by?
What am I inspired by? Honestly, there’s a lot of stuff that gets me in the creative flow. Everything around me and everything that happens within me is Inspiration. Anything from dreams, relationships, to nature makes me want to create. Just being a human in this life is fascinating. Lately I’ve been interested in understanding & comprehending perspectives aside from my own and it’s changing my outlook on life. And because of that, I’m able to start writing from a different point of view and it’s been fun.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something I feel that is unique about my artistry is that I create from a place of honesty. I always want to be authentic in my art & explore the world of imagination and wonderment. As far as my journey goes, I started playing open mics in 2014 in Las Vegas & it took some time to get my name out there in the community but over time I was able to open for established acts like Grammy award winning recording artist Mya. The Internet, Marsha Ambrosius, and Allen Stone. I even played one of the main stages at the 5th annual Life Is Beautiful Music Festival where I shared the bill with phenomenal artists like Muse, Gorillaz and Chance The Rapper. This journey has also taken me to the legendary Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, Sunset Blvd to be exact. The path of an artist comes with its challenges and a key thing I’ve learned along the way is that there’s got to be time to decompress & re-center yourself. Take time to make sure you’re mentally & spiritually balanced. Not being afraid of going back to the drawing board if something isn’t working is crucial. But most of all, I’ve realized how important it really is to wholeheartedly believe in yourself. You’ve got to believe in yourself no matter what. Keep that in your heart and never give up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1st place I’d take them is downtown Las Vegas. This place is full of great art and original music. 2nd I’d stop at some of my favorite eateries in town like Le Thai, Fuku Burger or veggie house. And of course you can’t miss the strip with all the lights, fun & personalities haha
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sonia Barcelona. She’s been my partner throughout this artistic journey and I’m grateful to have her in my life. To have someone who understands the path of an artists is important. We work really well together. Not to mention she also is a fantastic artist, photographer & singer/songwriter.
