We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose this career or rather it chose me. Art has always been apart of my daily regimen. I am a firm believer in doing what makes you happy. Art is my self love and healing. Do what you love and it’s never a job is what they say, I will have to agree with them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In addition to being the only black-owned gallery in the Culver City Arts District, Taylor Fine art provides an array of services, including event space rental, pop-up event production, procurement of artists,
entertainers and materials for events, art exhibition curating and staging, art sales and procurement,
marketing strategy development and social media activation. Our focus is community collaboration and
revitalization, making otherwise inaccessible spaces a welcoming scene for minority and underserved
community members. Our commitment to activism and support of underrepresented artists makes
Taylor Fine Art a stand-out entity to be reckoned with.
As an entrepreneur who has operated successfully in this business for over 30 years, I have a keen
understanding of how the art world functions, who the players are and how to maintain those
relationships.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first ask them what they would like to do before I do anything. Would def get out of La Proper and take them on day trips like Mt. Baldi, Palm Springs, San Diego, Coronado, Laguna Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
