We had the good fortune of connecting with JacQuar 937 and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JacQuar, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk are necessary for success and growth. I aim for calculated risk but it doesn’t always work that way, especially in the beginning. Some things in life are just trial and error. As long as your constantly learning and revamping yourself, your product, or company, then a loss isn’t a loss, but a lesson. I think about the stories they will tell about the risk I took in future, AFTER I’ve connected all the dots. Most people get hung up on taking risk because of public opinion, afraid to look like they don’t know what they’re doing, or afraid to lose/learn in public, but I’m not afraid though. I get discouraged, but I get myself together, pick up the pieces, and revamp. You only lose when you quit.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What keeps me busy is my to ability to learn and my versatility. My passion for music is so strong, there’s not too many roles I’m not willing to play or learn to make sure the product is amazing. So if I’m working with a great writer who needs help with picking better beats, I’ll be the A&R, Executive Producer to make sure the songs and tracks mesh. If I’m with a great producer but the artists needs help with lyrics or melodies, etc. I can help with that too. Basically, wherever there’s a need I can fulfill it. Even down to marketing, I’m an endless well of ideas when it comes to music and art.

It wasn’t an easy path to get here. A lot of self doubt, a lot bumping my head, and even some bridges burned along the way. But learning not to lean on the music or the music industry when things got rough really helped me. Leaning more on my love for the music, love of my family and learning when to jump in head first, and when to give myself some grace kept me sane. It’s all about balance and knowing your time is coming as long as you don’t stop. Whenever I make forced, or anxious music or decisions, I always regret it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d probably do a beach day or two, and one (at least) day/night in the studio. I like Mama Shelter’s, Gloria’s for drinks and food but I’m down to bowl, skate, hike etc. Anything fun especially involving good music

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout my fiancé Tanecia for believing in me all these years, being honest about my music lol and keeping me grounded. Along with the rest of my family, my little brother Drew for being like a manager to me since I was producing in high school. My mom, and anyone who has genuinely listened to my music and encouraged me to keep going. Some people will come in and out your life but they’ll give you just the right amount of encouragement, and/or guidance you need to keep going, so anyone who appreciates my music, I appreciate.
