We had the good fortune of connecting with Carina La Dulce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was a session performing artist for many years and never thought about building my own business based on my music, till the exact moment, in which I started to create my own music. I faced a lot of questions such as “how can I release it and where should I share it to find the people who will like it, without struggling to find and sign a contract with a big label?” I found out that the modern world gives amazing opportunities to the independent musician, that help you to get heard by the many people from all over the world, who like your music style, your ideas, and, which is the most important for me personally – it gives you a good chance to stay connected with this people and infinitely expand this circle of your like-minded music family. I’ve started to search all the ways I can use to expose my music as well as defining all the things I can share with them. The music business is one of the most complicated and unpredictable, but the coolest thing in it is that once you’ve started to give your art to the others and build this intimate musical friendship, it will last forever, because your common connection means a world and gives the greatest inspiration we can have in our lives. The main issue that I thought I have in my case was the fact, that I’m creating and producing the very special music. I named my style Dream Ethno Soul – my original songs that blend flamenco, African music, Latin American music and Middle Eastern music as well. And it’s not a kind of a popular thing that everyone will love and feel familiar with. But in the process of creating my musical brand (it still sounds too formally for me but anyway), I found out that my peculiarity is my main advantage in order to be noticed by the people who potentially will become the part of my music family. I use this term “music family” a lot, cause in the indie music business this relationship is not about the sellers and clients, who buy the music. It’s a real family, whose members are the important part of my art – they deeply affect the music I create, they support it and always have a close personal connection with me in my Patreon and socials, and this intimacy is just impossible to imagine in the case of the big labels projects. Sure, such as a owner of a small business I need to resolve a lot of things only by my own. Although I work a lot with the sound engineers, artist, designers, I’ve learned to make a sound recording at home, to edit the video, I created my own website from scratch, I’ve learned to make a design and I was learning all of that creating a new album and a lot of music videos at the same time. You just don’t think about it until you really start the music production. But I’m super excited to feel the freedom and power that my business gives me. Starting my own music business is one of the greatest adventures I had in my life and it’s a one of the decisions that I will never be regret of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Carina La Dulce, I’m a singer, composer and producer. I am a dreamer and invite you to dive into your dreams together with my music. I create it in my own style named Dream Ethno Soul and consisting of many beautiful colors of Flamenco music, Latin, African, Middle Eastern and Jazz music. I share beautiful ancient stories, witnessed in the infinite space of our soul and narrated by the universal language of our heart. The thing that excites me most in my musical pathway is that I’m always balancing between the present and the past, the modern world and the impossible bold dreams, I connect the inspiration of the traditional ethnic music of the world with the contemporary beats and vibes. I started to perform when I was a kid and it was a very long and pretty hard way. It still is, and when I say “hard” I mean that you never stop and always dive into the most challenging things, that later results an integral part of yourself. Dive Into Your Dream actually is my motto and the motto of my brand. I like the feeling of the word “dive”, it’s not only just “dream about the best times”, but go right into it, without coming back to the person you was earlier. The main lesson I’ve learned along the way is to be unique. Always differ from anyone you see and you hear, because to be different is our nature. We can create ourselves, our art, our music from scratch and it will always be other people who want to be a part of it, because you are real, truthful and genuine. All the music I create is about the uniqueness and freedom. I was born in Russia, I have Spanish, Gypsy and Jewish origin, many years I performed such as a flamenco singer in the traditional shows and about 5 years ago I’ve started to create my own music inspired by the cultures of Spain, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. So, as you see I am the person of the world, but with the strong roots. I mostly compose my songs in Spanish, cause I consider this language absolutely perfect for transmitting the message of love, pain and freedom. I try put together in my music all the things I love – flamenco, guitar, jazz, Indian vocal percussion, ethnic drums. I also use the African and Cuban ritual chants in my songs and I am obsessed with the shamanic tradition. I dedicated it my recent big release, the song and the music video called Estrella, that was shot partly in LA and partly in Moscow. I released my first album of Old Spanish and Sephardic songs called Andalusia and very soon I’ll release my new album ELLA 12 Mystical Secrets of Woman’s Soul which tells about the inner life of a woman, from the birth of a girl till the last step to the eternal love. I dedicated this album to all the women who don’t have enough voice to declare their real dreams. I’m already planning the next album and thinking to make some experiments with the electronic music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I really love to be close to the nature I would definitely recommend to any person visiting LA area go to spend a day in the Malibu Creek Park, it’s an amazing place and it feels absolutely magic, especially Rock Pool – we even shot one of my music videos in its waters. I also liked a lot all the places when you can enjoy the Spanish heritage and a very special touch of its culture – Pasadena and its San Gabriel Mission, Orange County and its San Juan Capistrano – the altar of its church was brought from Barcelona! And its inner patio are kind of the same that you can meet in the South of Spain. I adored Laguna Beach, the city of art and galleries – it’s absolutely amazing that you can find yourself in a small ancient Mediterranean city without leaving the modern and super open-minded California. There you should try the Gelato ice cream in the eponymous place. In live in the SF valley and there we have a location where you can enjoy the best sunsets in the area – Wilbur Tampa Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate it to all the people who shows support to my music – my Patreons, my Bandcamp subscribers, the patrons of my album ELLA 12 Mystical Secrets of Woman’s Soul, my Youtube, Facebook and Instagram subscribers – I feel your love and I’m very proud to have you in my life!
