We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Jefferson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It’s definitely been an amazing journey! I actually discovered my passion for acting working as an attorney. A friend recommended that I check out an acting workshop as a pursuit outside of my legal career. So, I started taking classes and getting involved in community theatre. And as they say, the rest is history. I absolutely fell in love with acting! I love the experience of bringing stories and characters to life on stage as well as on camera. Also, as artists we can have a profound impact on the world around us. We truly can inspire others, raise awareness about important issues and be a catalyst for change. That’s what I love about being an artist. Acting truly is my passion!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wow! It’s definitely been an unusual journey! As an actor, I definitely find myself more drawn to theatrical roles and I do have a strong stage presence. However, I also have a lot of range; from my strong stage presence to the ability to show authentic vulnerability. This versatility is really important to longevity in the industry. Also, I love the challenge of playing different types of roles. It’s so much fun! I’m really proud of being on this amazing journey of life. Simply living life on my own terms and having the courage to pursue my passion for acting as I continue my legal career. It’s definitely not easy! But staying focused and surrounding myself with great people who are just as passionate about life as I am makes all the difference! I’ve learned to stay in faith and stay committed to what God has put in my heart. I would say that my life story illustrates what an amazing journey life can truly be and I’m just getting started on this new adventure as a professional actress in Los Angeles.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love LA! There’s so much to do and see here, especially as venues begin to open to the public again. You cannot possibly be bored living here, ever! I prefer to skip the super touristy spots and opt for more local venues. I really enjoy low key relaxing activities. So, definitely some nice morning hikes at Griffith Park would be on the itinerary followed by breakfast at Green Street in Pasadena. Also, I love the Grove and the Americana. We would dine at Cafe Gratitude in the Arts District and hang out in DTL for a bit too. The Broad Museum always has great exhibits! Also, a concert at the Hollywood Bowl is an absolute must. And what’s a trip to LALA Land without some beach time? Manhattan Beach is probably my favorite local beach. Very beautiful and a lot less crowded compared to some of the others. Also, the views from the Strand House Restaurant are gorgeous. We would likely wrap up at least one evening with dinner at one my of all time favorite spots, Sage Bistro in Pasadena. But not before a quick trip to the best vegan donut shop around, Donut Friend in Highland Park!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh, my gosh! There have been so many lovely people who have been part of my amazing journey as a TV news reporter, as an attorney and now as a professional actress. However, a dear aunt definitely deserves a lot of credit for my unique journey. She’s such an amazing woman. So accomplished, yet so very grounded and a person of strong faith. She’s always supported my endeavors including my passion for acting. She’s so excited whenever I book a project and always encourages me. And she’s the only person who can still get away with calling me by my nickname!
