Meet Cat Thompson: Recording Artist & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cat Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cat, why did you pursue a creative career?
I knew that I wanted to be a singer-songwriter since I was a little girl. As a child, I loved writing stories and poetry and I loved playing instruments and singing. Writing songs allowed me to combine the things that I loved into something that I could share with the world. Music has always been integral to humans. It makes us feel, think, laugh, cry, it brings us together and gets us dancing. I always loved performing and I wanted to create something that other people in the world could connect with and enjoy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a recording artist and songwriter. I play several instruments and have an avid love of all things creative. For my live shows, I love to sing and dance at the the same time with my back up dancers but I also love the emotion that performing a heartfelt ballad brings. I will always be striving to grow both in my career and as a performer. I have been writing a lot of new music so I am exciting to share that with the world. No musician ever will say working in the arts is easy. It’s full of highs and lows but it’s an incredible journey. You over come the challenges through self determination, hard work and surrounding yourself with good people who believe in you and your mission. Good friends who remind you to stop and smell the roses are important. A lesson I learnt along the way: I learnt to be kinder to myself, to take breaks when I need them. I’m still a work-a-holic but I’m getting much better at balancing things. I want people to know that you can chase your dreams. It won’t be easy, and like every great story it will have twists and turns but if it’s something true to your heart then it will be worth it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favourite way to spend time with friends is at home with lots of good food, laughter and great conversations.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Trevor Deane, whose kindness, support and understanding has allowed me to grow into the songwriter I am today. Hiring recording studios all the time can get costly and after years of hiring and working in other people’s recording studios, I dreamt of having a recording studio of my own. I wanted a space that I could go into at any time to write and record songs and to experiment with sounds. Trevor believed in my vision and helped me build the beautiful recording studio that I have today. Our chats about music always help me to think outside the box and inspire new ideas. I would also like to dedicate my shoutout to choreographer and dancer James Deane, whose unwavering support has allowed me to grow as a performer and creative. James’ skills when working on music videos and live shows as been indispensable and I am so lucky to have such a talented creative mind onboard who believes in me as an artist. Both Trevor and James have helped me grow into the artist I am today and I will be forever be thankful for all their support.
