Meet Centeria “ Koi The Shooter” Hall | Film & Polaroid Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Centeria “ Koi The Shooter” Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Centeria “ Koi The Shooter”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to create art that felt tangible and timeless. Photography became a way for me to preserve moments and evoke emotions in others. It wasn’t just about taking photos; it was about capturing stories that connect people and inspire nostalgia. I also wanted to challenge myself creatively and build something meaningful that could serve as my legacy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As “Koi the Shooter,” my art is about preserving the beauty of everyday life while evoking a sense of nostalgia. I specialize in film photography, embracing its imperfections and using techniques like pushing film to create high-contrast, textured visuals that feel tangible and timeless. What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity—minimal post-editing and a focus on creating images that feel like you can step into them.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to connect with people through my work. Whether it’s through my In Living Color exhibit or my Polaroid collections, my art tells stories that resonate on a personal level. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but every challenge—whether financial, creative, or personal—has shaped my vision and fueled my determination.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of community. My friends and supporters have been instrumental in helping me grow, whether it’s loaning me equipment, modeling for me, or inspiring new ideas. They’ve taught me that creativity thrives in collaboration.
I want the world to know that my art is more than just photography—it’s a legacy. My work represents my journey, my roots, and my belief that beauty exists in the small, fleeting moments. Through every exhibit and project, my goal is to inspire others to see the world through a lens of appreciation and possibility.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d create a week-long itinerary that mixes the vibrancy of Los Angeles with the charm of Long Beach. We’d start in Downtown LA and Hollywood, where you can just get lost walking around the city, exploring iconic landmarks, murals, and local shops. I’d make sure we check out some of LA’s incredible museums, like The Broad or LACMA, for inspiring exhibits.
Back in Long Beach, we’d visit Modica’s for their delicious pasta or head to Long Beach Brewery for a chill meal with a beach vibe. The Long Beach Museum of Art, right on the ocean, is a must-see—it always has fantastic exhibits and the views are stunning. Downtown Long Beach is perfect for walking or biking, with its blend of Mediterranean charm and urban cool. We’d explore its cafes and local gems like the Blind Donkey, a cozy bar to hang out and grab drinks.
For a more relaxed day, I’d take them to Marina Pacifica, where we’d catch a movie at the Edward Cinemas, followed by a visit to Barnes & Noble next door. I’d also show them the Third Street library, a small, welcoming spot that’s perfect for research or unwinding.
Every part of the itinerary would celebrate the vibrant energy of the city and the peacefulness of the beachside neighborhoods, giving them a well-rounded experience of what makes this area special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my friend Jason, who’s also a photographer. He’s been an incredible support—helping me get into my second art show and even loaning me his lens for my first studio session. I also have to thank my friend Chantel, who’s been unwaveringly supportive throughout this journey. My god-sister Munchie deserves recognition too—she gifted me my first backdrop and has always had my back. Honestly, my entire friend group has been instrumental in my growth, from modeling for me to encouraging my creativity. Even my barber inspired me to create an art exhibit in my neighborhood. I owe so much of what I’ve accomplished to the love and support of my community.
