We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantal Massuh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chantal, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my tenacity and determination. My careers in film and modeling would have never flourished if it was not for my will to keep going in the face of rejection. You’re going to face so many closed doors, and people telling you that you are not good enough but I never listen to any of that and keep going. I know I meant to be doing the things I’m doing and perseverance always pays off.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a storyteller my whole life. My love of writing, photography, and filmmaking began at a young age and has been my guiding light throughout my journey. I love creating and showcasing my point of view behind the camera and most recently i’ve moved to in front of it with modeling.

A year ago I started modeling and that kinda blew up unexpectedly which is super exciting because I am plus size. I’ve been featured in a few magazines most notably Hustler magazine as one of the first plus size models they have ever featured. Getting into a huge magazine is something models spend their whole careers trying to do which is why it is that special to me. Nothing I have ever endeavoured on in the arts has been easy. Everyone wants to tell you you’re not good enough and that you should quit which breeds self doubt and that is the hardest thing to overcome. If you can tune out the rejections and keep going that will bring you great success. I’m a hard worker and hard work always leads to success and the top. Don’t ever give up on the things you want to do. I always say if the door gets slammed in your face, find a window to break into. Life is about playing the game but doing it your way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is a city that captivated me from the moment I saw it. There is so much to see here but my favorite place to take people to eat is breakfast or lunch at the Alcove Cafe which is this cute little brunch coffee spot in Los Feliz. I love this place because you can leave a handwritten note in the little drawers of their furniture and read others notes. It’s a beautiful experience that is extremely romantic to get to read the notes others have left behind for their loved ones. The food is also incredible. After that it is of course time to hit the beach. I absolutely love going to Santa Monica or Malibu. There is nothing in this world that feels like you’re in a postcard than going to those two beaches. It always makes me so happy to see the fun bright lights of the SM pier or the blue water of Malibu beach. It makes you feel like you’re in a movie.

If you want excitement and fun people watching there is nothing like Hollywood Blvd. The stars line the street and the shopping is great. The oddities and people are incredibly eccentric it makes you smile.

Lastly, Descanso Gardens is an amazing place as well full of beautiful botanical gardens that mesmerize you. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d dedicate my shoutout to my partner in life Cameron Barrett who always supports my decisions. He encourages me when I have moments of doubt and is there to see me through all of my hardships. I love him more than anything.
