Meet Charis: Singer/ Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The possibilities with artistic careers are endless. Especially in music. I love that musicians can collab even if they have different genres or styles, and still make the most unexpected, dope record ever. I also love how usually the ideas for the most impressive songs come when the artists’ least expect it. The process of making the music is also super exciting. Music is very experimental which leaves a lot of space for new, awesome ideas. That’s what makes each song so special because of its individuality. To be part of such a unique process is thrilling. The mystery of not knowing how the song will actually sound until recorded, or even until the very end, is always exciting too. These details are some of the main reasons of why I’m passionate about music and continue to pursue it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Charis and I am a singer, songwriter, and recording artist. My newer songs that are set to release in the next couple months are dance/ pop/ R&B. I think what sets me apart from other artists is my voice, look, and overall uplifting songs. I just want to make people dance and remember how sexy they are. I also incorporate lyrics in my newest song about living in the moment and not missing out on your own life. I think it’s important to provide a solid message while simultaneously serving the good vibes. I am most proud about my next two releases. They show off my voice much better than my releases from the past. To get to where I am now, I had to work with countless people and put in a hell of a lot of time and energy obviously. I had to go through so many negative situations to finally learn where to direct myself. I overcame the challenges by pushing through and remaining confident. I learned to know my worth and know what I won’t put up with. It’s just the beginning for me as an artist so follow me along the ride! Promise it’ll be fun 😉
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this question. One of my favorite things to do is show my friends around. I’m going to pretend we’re not in the pandemic and say all my normal favorite places. I lived in Downtown for my first year and a half in LA so I love taking friends there. The rooftop at the Freehand is always fun. Also love The Standard, Perch, and Ace Hotel. I’ve taken friends to Modern Times and Angel City Brewery. Aside from the bars and restaurants, I’d obviously have to take my friends to some nature spots. My favorite beach spot is at Point Dume. You can climb the rocks and end up in a secluded beach area. I’d also have a picnic on a cliff in Malibu, then end the night at an overlook in the Palisades that is a view of all of LA. The most fun thing to check out in LA would probably be some live music. The last show I saw before the lockdown was Mahalia at the Hollywood Palladium. Amazing show.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to Kedo Rebelle aka my friend Konrad. We started working together recently and have already made two amazing songs together. He helps me with the entire process of the record (songwriting, recording, engineering, mixing) and he’s brilliant. He knows how to make my voice come alive on the track and constantly inspires me. He’s also an artist himself so go check him out! Also shoutout to the producer on the two new tracks of mine (Armin Wave) I can’t wait for you guys to hear the tracks soon!
