We had the good fortune of connecting with Inka Winter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Inka, how does your business help the community?
My social activism is rooted in changing existing repressive social norms that cause harm to individuals and subsequently society at large. I believe that porn heavily influences, amongst other things, perspectives on sexuality, gender norms and womxn. With our erotic films, we want to change these perspectives to be more feminist in order to create a more consensual and sexually liberated world. My company, ForPlay Films, is an independent, all womxn production company creating erotic films through the female lens. Putting women in charge of telling the sexual narrative of womxn leads to a more real, honest and diverse representation of womxn sexuality. The goal is to empower womxn in their sexuality as well as their boundaries. We also have a sex education series called Sexucation because we believe that sex education is an important part of sexual wellbeing and because there is a general lack of good sex education.
What should our readers know about your business?
ForPlay films in an independent, all women production company of erotic films by women, for women. ForPlay Films is part of a movement towards more women made, ethical, feminist porn.
We are hoping to change the landscape of porn to move from mainstream towards more inclusive, diverse and consensual porn that portrays real pleasure and where the performers have more agency.
The result are films that center more on intimacy, autonomy and chemistry.
At the same time our films are more cinematic and have more relatable storylines.
At ForPlay Films we even go a step further and make what we call Holistic Porn.
As a mindfulness practitioner and desire and arousal coach Inka Winter’s approach considers the whole person with their emotional and psychological wants and needs as well as their sexual desires.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite thing is to be outside in nature and I love that Los Angeles has so much of that to offer. I would take them to drive up PCH and stop for a fish sandwich at Neptune’s Net.
Maybe we could spend the night camping at Leo Carrillo Beach.
LA also has great museums, the Getty combines that sense of being outdoors with seeing some amazing art. I would take them for a stroll at the Huntington Library or Descanso Gardens and to see the Griffith Observatory. I also would take them on a tour of Downtown LA architecture with the LA conservancy walking tour and hunt some antiques at the Rose bowl Flea Market or the Fairfax Flea Market.
For a little bit of a touristy activity I would add some roller blading at Venice Beach.
And in the evening I would go see a movie outdoors maybe at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery or any of the other great outdoor venues.
For food I would take them to eat Ethiopian food in Little Ethiopia and to some local Taco trucks and Ceviche restaurants.
And to honor my German heritage I would take them to Das Wirtshaus on La Brea and to see Silvia Moor perform as Marlene Dietrich at the Red Lion in Silverlake.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have enabled me to do what I do. First of all my group of friends whose encouragement and non judgement made me feel like the work I am doing is worthwhile for me to pursue.
Secondly all my friends that have put their time and labor into helping me not only with their thoughts and ideas but with their skill to create the films at the quality that I was hoping to achieve.
Dan Savage for talking about sex, sexuality and everything related in a way that normalizes all things sex and who, by that, made me feel like perusing this career was even an option.
And last but not least all the talent performing in my films without whom there wouldn’t be any films.
Their vulnerability and trust in me to provide a safe space for their sexual expression is what makes our films so beautiful and real.
