We had the good fortune of connecting with Chauncea Carothers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chauncea, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Last year, as a globe were forced to slow down. That gave me a wonderful opportunity to not only talk about self-care but be intentional with practicing self-care. My busy travel schedule was replaced by bubble baths every Sunday, pausing work emails over the weekend, hour long chats with friends, perfecting skincare routines and more!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
You’ll find lots of information about my business on the services section of my website however, I intentionally share my faith, business tips and tools, international travel, beauty and fashion through content creation with my audience on my social media platforms and blog – that is my art.

What sets me apart from others is although I am a businesswoman, I do not believe in the “hustle” culture. I believe people should work hard but also rest well. I hope the wisdom I share on my social media platforms is representative of that.

What I’m most excited about is I am currently working on a membership program. You can go to my website (Chauncea.com), and you will see “coming soon” on the membership section. I’m super excited about how we will cultivate a community full of creatives who are ready to tackle their goals in bite-size feasible ways. Make sure you are subscribed to my Monthly Newsletter to be one of the first to find out when it launches!

When I started my business, I was fortunate enough to be able to rely on several trusted referrals. I have had to learn a lot about myself as a young businesswoman –  my value, my business practices and my standards. I have had to be malleable, be able to receive correction and make constant adjustments. Most of all I have had to be a continual student first and a leader second. This has allowed me to see growth in every area of my life and as an extremely introspective person, I strive to make my weaknesses my strengths. I am also extremely thankful for the close-knit team that has helped me clarify my vision, manage clients, projects and achieve my goals. When I do lose my way and don’t know where to turn next, I always know the word of God is there to help me do both the heart work and the hard work required to become whole in every area of my life!

It may take you longer, but you do not have to compromise who you are and who you serve. Faith will always be a part of my business model because I firmly believe that God is the primary reason for the success I have achieved thus far.

You can be unique, trail-blaze your own path and move at the pace that’s best for you while still experiencing significant growth. Instagram is just a glimpse into my life. I have had many challenges, many obstacles, hurdles, trials, tears and yes, many people tell me no. I never want anyone to idolize my journey because there have been some challenging seasons that I’ve pushed through privately to be a positive example publicly.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am originally from the East Coast and many of my friends have conservative careers so if I had a friend come and visit me in LA, I would take them on a “Day In The Life” because I think it would be insightful, thrilling and fun for them. I would take them to see clients who are working on creative projects, have them assist me with creating content, etc. and in between work, I would take them to see all of the famous sites such as 3rd Street Promenade, Malibu, Santa Monica Pier, the Hollywood Stars, The Grove, the Hollywood sign, LACMA and downtown LA. I would also love to have a breakfast picnic on one of my favorite Los Angeles beaches, Manhattan Beach.

Most of my days include early mornings and late nights, so they would get to also experience some tremendous late-night restaurants that I love. My Mother and I have frequented many restaurants in Thai Town because we love that many of them are family owned, the food is amazing and the ambience is great. Berries is another late night go to spot – not only do they have great food, but it’s a place where you can get a snapshot of LA industry life and although I have become quite familiar with celebrities and the “LA” lifestyle, I think many of my visiting friends would get a kick out of seeing and experiencing time around some of the “stars”. I also love Diamores and Chin Chin’s salads, Lemonades’ lemonade, Bossanova for the great Brazilian and Italian food (especially late at night) and Urth Cafe, Catch or Malibu Farm for a chill Sunday atmosphere that is great for looking chic, enjoying great brunch items while people watching. Lastly, I would want them to try the “green and glowing” smoothie from Whole Foods – I get one several times a week!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I am extremely grateful for trusted and excellent tribe of friends I have, I must also reference 3 important factors in my life: 1. I am thankful for my relationship with God because I do not believe I would be where I am or even who I am if it wasn’t for His guidance and unconditional love for me.
2. The bible gives me the tools I need to navigate my life and business with clarity, peace and confidence. I can always count on the word of God to give me that gentle (and sometimes harsh) reminder of who I am and whose I am!
3. My mom is the most significant Christian and business influence I have had in my life to date. She has given me invaluable wisdom, advice, and strategies pertaining to Christian living and Christian entrepreneurship. She has taught me how to work smart and always make my relationship with Jesus Christ preeminent in business. She gives me the liberty o need to grow at the pace organic for me and I’m immensely grateful for her presence throughout my journey.
