We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Suela and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Thats a great question! I have a ton of new habits that I feel I have learned during my journey, but the one I would like to focus on is the “Entrprenuerial Mindset”. We all tend to solve problems as they arise as a habit. During my journey, I have had to learn the habit of applying more questions to any potential solution. Does the solution affect my brand image? Cash Flow? Is it duplicatable on a large scale? I worked in the HealthCare Space as an administrator for over 20 years, so these were never questions I needed to ask myself. Have an amazing idea? No matter how exciting and idea or how serious a challenge, asking myself these questions has helped continuiously guide us towards success and growth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The food industry is always going to drill down to flavor, service and guest experience. I’m proud that our clients love our flavors and the Soul/Latin fusion we have in our dishes. It really sets us apart. Now, let’s get to service and guest experience. We consult with every client, no matter the size of the event and discuss the “vibe” of the event, the theme, the vegan count and/or allergies and ensure that logistics (arrival time, etc…) are all there to be seen. We are super proud that we are 5 star rated across all platforms and our reviews mention the service and experience as well as the flavors. When you hire us, we will be on time and ensure each and every guest has an amazing amd memorable experience.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My family is from Michigan and we are ALL into food! We would put together a week of different food and cultures. Start with Olvera Street and soak up the authentic food and culture. Then we would go “The Alley”, do some shoping and eat some of the famous “Alley Dogs”. Let’s take a trip to Malibu and hang out by the beach while we eat seafood at Neptunes Net. Hit Korea Town for some Pho and then Karaoke at The Brass Monkey. We can head over to Universal Studios to check out the scene and then have dinner at The Ramp for some Prime Rib! We would hit a Dodger game for the Dodger Dogs (ALL BEEF!!) and wrap it up with a good, old fashioned Sunday Dinner cooked by US!!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people to recognize! Nobody makes it alone and I am blessed to have a group of warriors that walk shoulder -to-shoulder with me. First, my mother, Beverly, who encouraged me in all of my life journeys and shared a ton of these family recipes with me. My little sister…during the Pandemic, when she looked at me and said “your food is amazing, you should do that!” My cousin, who bought the first official “Soul Food Friday” meal. My life partner, business partner and Soul Mate, Chef G, who is always supportive and tries his hardest to make some of my wild ideas come to life! My whole family for encouraging me and supporting me….sharing my details on their pages and coming together when we do our “Community Love” events. Last, but not least…all of my clients who continue to support us, place orders for theie events and refer us to their friends. Thank you all!
