Meet Chelsea “Chi Chi” Moore | Dancer, Choreographer, Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea “Chi Chi” Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea “Chi Chi”, why did you pursue a creative career?
The connection, experience, energy, journey, etc. There are no words to describe how connecting with another soul nonverbally can be like. It’s such a privilege to be capable of storytelling with my skeleton that it wasn’t a choice for me to pursue this career, but a must. I’ve always been more intuitive to approach things from an artistic perspective. Moreover, I’ve also always had strong sensations from experiencing feelings throughout my life. So, to connect myself to the world around me, it’s a must I exchange energy with other souls. Dance curates the space to connect with people on an emotional level, as well as constantly challenging my curiosity and creativity.
Choreography gives me the freedom to create, to shape raw movement into something meaningful, and to push artistic boundaries. There’s so much power in bringing an idea to life through something as simple as a gesture, and especially seeing others interpret and embody my vision.
Modeling, on the other hand, is another extension of self expression. To me it’s about embodying different types of characters, moods, aesthetics-using posture, gaze, and presence to tell a story in a single frame. It pushes me to be versatile, confident, and always in tune with my body.
At the core of all these paths is the love for artistry, storytelling, and the ability to move people-whether through dance, choreography, or an image captured in time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is organic and experimental, calling for respect of individuality and empathy. Each work is crafted to inspire self reflection and relationship, building confidence in individual voice for those who appreciate artistic expression over mere technique. Taking inspiration from the space between visceral and physical, my work transcends boundaries, delving into the subconscious mind and the transformative exchange between souls. Existing in the liminal, this art invites others to experience the hidden dimensions of human connection. I hone my craft leading through a sense of intentionality and professionalism.
The consistent journey we are on as artists is never easy, and neither was getting to where I am today. We have to put so much of ourselves out on the line to be seen. On top of that, we have to be willing to take risks, but most importantly, willing to fail. Not wanting to fail, or being scared of failure, can actually be the one huge thing that sets any artist back from pursuing further. It’s a mentality you have to work to achieve and redirect because it’s never always perfect.
I think that’s one of the most important lessons I’ve learned. Failure and risk taking is vital to pushing our curiosity and navigating our boundaries. However, what’s even more important than that is mindset. How we redirect negative self talk and mental blocks, or even how we dive our curiosity deeper.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a Hollywood resident for the entirety of my time here, I honestly get most excited when I get to escape it haha. Definitely get breakfast at Great White, then we’d head down to Malibu by taking the “scenic” route. Working up an appetite we’d stop to get sandwiches at John’s Garden in Malibu and sit in the sand enjoying the ocean. Let’s say we had all the time in the world and could teleport, we’d go downtown to Dover and take in some fashion. Finally, getting ramen at Afuri.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for my momma! Jenn Moore, owner of “Studio 29 Dance Centre”, has consistently empowered small town artists to take big risks and go for their dreams! Thank you for always fostering vulnerability and allowing us to feel capable. In and out of the studio, you have always been a strong, positive asset to your dancers and it doesn’t go unrecognized.
I would also have to thank my mother agency, Foreman Management, for nurturing my introduction into modeling. I appreciate that you’ve always provided a welcoming space to ask any and all questions, keeping it raw, and unwavering support throughout my creative fields.
As well as Michelle Elkin, for introducing me to AMDA, getting me there, and for always providing guidance. I’ve been able to work with and curate relationships with numerous instructors in the dance industry throughout my time at AMDA, all which would not have been possible without your stepping stone to arrive here.
