We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Cox Gillman & Tess Cox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea & Tess, what matters most to you?
At TC&A we lead with our character at the core of everything we do. Character is the foundational piece that allows us to strengthen our skill sets, build consistencies in our positive behavior, cultivate relationships that will support us, and ultimately gives us the ability to thrive with confidence. This focus of character, competence, consistency, creativity, and confidence guides us to be the leaders of ourselves, first. With this confidence, we are able to better serve our clients. We support them as they become the leaders of themselves, first, so they can better lead their teams in the workplace and those in their personal lives as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
TC&A is a mother/daughter led, leadership coaching and consulting firm. Tess is Principal and a Senior Executive Leadership Coach, Consultant, Author, and Non-Profit Founder with 30 years of leadership experience. Chelsea is the Managing Director of TC&A and spent over 15 years in luxury & lifestyle hotel operations management and leadership throughout the U.S. She transitioned her operations expertise and combined it with her love of connecting, communicating, and building teams to coach, consult and train teams. TC&A offers a variety of coaching opportunities, books, and online courses to support your leadership development through mindset training, effective processes of communication, decision-making capabilities, and building strong and trusting relationships.
We’ve always been intentional with how we approach TC&A and we’ve stayed true to who we are at our core. Certainly, with that intention, there has come sacrifice and risk. We’ve been supported by our own commitment to personal and professional growth, as we believe all leaders are learners! Within the sacrifice, we have passed on job opportunities that would have provided greater stability and predictability in the beginning. Yet, we trusted that our passion for being of service to others combined with our intentional behaviors and actions would be worth the risk!
We want the world to know that you have the ability to lead yourself, first.
- Leading yourself, first, means you know who you are and why you do what you do.
- Leading yourself, first, means you are committed to building your strengths and understanding where there may be gaps.
- Leading yourself, first, means you are focused on marginal gains, being 1% better every day.
- Leading yourself, first, means you lean into good and healthy relationships.
- Leading yourself, first, means being confident that the outcomes you are experiencing are meant for you. There is always a lesson to learn, both in the joy of celebration and in the complexity of challenge.
When you become the leader of yourself, first, you can then lead others professionally and personally. There is great peace, flow, and success available when you welcome this concept and make it a practice every day.
Our interactive book The Leadership Blueprint: Becoming The Architect Of Your Life & Work is a foundational tool we recommend as a supportive starting place. We also have The Deeply Rooted Journal which supports the Lead Yourself, First mindset and we have The Family Strong Blueprint which applies the same principles in a family setting for parents and teens.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough one, there are so many exciting and fun options! One of our favorite hoods in the city is Los Feliz, I (Chelsea), used to live there so Monday Night Dinner’s at Little Dom’s are a must. Of course, a hike up Griffith Park to see the observatory and beautiful city view would definitely be a go-to recommendation as well. As LA natives though, our favorite getaway, and one that we take all of our visitors to, is Santa Barbara. Whether it’s a day trip to the funk zone for wine tasting, a long walk on the gorgeous beach strands, or a massage at one of the beautiful hotels, we soak up every bit Santa Barbara has to offer on a regular basis. We love to share its beauty and lush vibe with all our friends and family!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Undoubtedly, our family deserves the biggest Shoutout! They are our biggest supporters and are always available to celebrate the wins, listen, edit, think through, and encourage us when complexities or obstacles arise.
