We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherise Bangs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cherise, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I think the most important thing I’ve done to impact my son and other children is to be my authentic self and lead with love. Children truly learn from actions and not words. When my son observes me taking a deep breath to release emotions, treating people with kindness and singing and/or dancing to change the mood, he then turns and does all those things in his own authentic way. One of my favorite things to do is teach yoga to kids. I love giving children yogic tools to balance body, mind and spirit. I’m currently teaching yoga over zoom for my son’s class and all the kids surprised me with words and drawings that expressed how they feel when they practice yoga. I had tears of joy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I absolutely love everything that I do!! I used to try to keep everything separate, but I learned that each unique skill I possess is stronger together. Growing up in a musical yogi family is something I’m proud of and I feel truly alive and my most authentic self when I get to share my gifts. When I’m on set I use my yoga therapy to stay in the moment and connect with my breath. When I’m teaching private yoga or Ayurveda sessions I tailor each session based on one’s Dosha type. In Tarot readings I use the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and my lineage to go deeper in each reading and Reiki is something I add to every session. I’ve never had anyone say no to an energy healing. I’ve also become quite the alchemist. Part of my Ayurvedic training was in essential oils. I’m the co-curator for Madison Charles oils. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My ideal day in Los Angeles would be vegan brunch at The Inn of The Seventh Ray, a meditation and walk around the Lake at The Self Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in The Pacific Palisades. A hike up Temescal Canyon, a trip to El Matador beach and ending the day with vegan Sushi from Shojin. These are some of the most magical places in Los Angeles.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my incredible parents! Their love and support has never wavered. They always encouraged me to follow my heart and started me on a yogic path from day one. They’re a beautiful inspirational music duo called Heartdream. I sing their song “Spirit of the Atman” to my son every night. I’d also like to include my amazing hubby, son and all my family, friends and teachers. I feel truly blessed and grateful to have such an incredible light-filled tribe around me.
