Hi CHIA ＬＩＮ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
hope people in the community can often come to my café to chat, enjoy coffee, and find a sense of warmth and calm. I also want it to be a place where they can see exhibitions, and through art, deepen their understanding of life and their pursuit of it.”
What should our readers know about your business?
Starting an exhibition space combined with a café was not easy, as I did not receive any government support. Instead, I relied on my own abilities to raise funds from others, and during the first three years of the business, I used the savings I had left. Later, I explained to friends and customers why I wanted to create such a space, emphasizing the idea of serving the community and sharing beauty, before starting fundraising. It has now been ten years since I founded it.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends visit Hsinchu, we usually go eat duck noodle soup, because it’s a local dish loved by the people here. After that, we like to wander around Hsinchu’s old town, which is home to many important historical sites and is perfect for a day of strolling.”
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my mother. She has always supported and helped me, especially with family matters. Through her, I’ve come to realize that the most precious thing in life is the presence of love.”
