Meet Chinwendu Kelechi | Multi-dimensional artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chinwendu Kelechi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chinwendu, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself, the single most important decision I made that contributed and still contributes to my success is deciding to show up everyday and do my best to grow my business in the best possible ways.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a storyteller and researcher, and art is how I document my life and work. I am self-taught, and my work is based on reimagining the ancient Uli, Nsibidi, Mbari, and Ukara art by creating story-based pieces that convey Igbo cultural ideas in a contemporary setting. My work is centered on delivering a new kind of artform that has worldwide appeal whilst representing the Igbo traditional heritage and worldview.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to the team at the African Artists Foundation Gallery, Lagos, where I had my first show at the Unusual Suspects group exhibition held in June, 2021. It was truly the most wonderful time exhibiting there.
