We had the good fortune of connecting with understandud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi understandud, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To take risks is to breathe. In your every day you participate in risks you’ve mostly muted. Driving in your vehicle, eating that second slice of cake, going on a walk, NOT going on a walk, these all come with different risks with different severities should “things go wrong” and yet we do them anyway. Yet when it comes to taking risks regarding our well-being and happiness – this is where we are frozen. I believe the root of this comes from parenting, our culture, and of course – our own brush with failure and rejection.

I dropped out of what is regarded to be one of the top Universities in the world (not going to drop their name as I don’t feel the institution does enough for their students who come from nothing) to feed my creative soul and fulfill my true purpose. There was a risk going to this school, taking out 20k in student loans, and graduating into a market I would be completely unfamiliar with – just the same as there was a risk to me dropping out to pursue what may be the craziest endeavor for somebody who knows better. But what is important here is that I chose my risk and have followed through with the decision. When facing decisions regarding your well being, your happiness (and not the idea of happiness fed to you by a sick society), and your peace – take the risk.

You don’t get to decide whether or not you take risks, but you do get to decide WHAT you take risks on. Feed your head.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I seek original ideas and try to express them in ways that don’t come off like a sermon, washed, or anything of the like. I don’t overthink as I know once it is out the people will do plenty of thinking for me.

Art is important as it is communication that can move mountains. It can also trap a population into what is artificial, mass-produced, cheap – especially when paired nicely with powerful algorithmic marketing campaigns.

My art comes through me in a way to share different pieces of our collective soul, along with my personal experiences that give me the “credentials” to speak on such things. If that was ever necessary.

What I would like your community to know about me is – this isn’t for show.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooo yall tryna get all my favorite spots hit with the blog line huh? Playing, I would personally take them out to the South Bay. I feel like it is an area of LA that gets glossed over and it has some of the best seafood, Asian food, sushi, and Hispanic food in all of LA. One spot I will give up is a little restaurant in Gardena by the name of Otofuku. They have easily one of the best Eel dishes I have had in my life.

Aside from food I would take them all along the San Pedro coast to hit up some beautiful scenes and waterfront eats.

I don’t drink but I do smoke and because it’s not like NYC where you can just walk around with herb burning so you get creative in all of the little nature locations where you can just kick back, enjoy some fresh air, and get zooted. That’s just my speed though.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My gma Nae. Since this is my first piece of press I would like to immortalize her for all of the sacrifices she made to raise me and put me on a path towards whats righteous and pure.
