We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Kostantewicz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, how do you think about risk?
I jokingly say that without risk nothing in my life I do would be possible. I have an all in or nothing mentality, often going all trading stocks or into new business ventures on impulse before I have second thoughts. This is both the reason why I’m successful, but definitely have had a bumpy ride along the way building my agency ck media and losing a TON of money trying to get proficient at trading stock options (still learning everyday). When I left my last desk job in 2019 at first I wanted this hybrid existence of running my agency from my phone but still having a social media marketing career in the industry at least part-time. Afraid to go all in out of fear that if I just worked on my agency, I’d risk becoming irrelevant on my resume, cause at the end of the day, who doesn’t have a side hustle from their phone? This side-hustle turned into a quarter-million dollar per year venture after working on it non-stop for 3 years straight, at times extremely broke and worried about the future, I fought through the anxiety and forced myself to keep going and not get another desk job. All in all it paid off, but it took extreme determination and will-power, most of all the ability to risk it all for a dream made all the difference in the end.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m the CEO and Founder of CK Media, it’s a social media marketing agency based in Los Angeles, CA. We specialize in celebrity advertising, and PR. Since 2018, CK Media has helped over 10,000 brands and businesses grow their online presence to over 100,000 followers each or more on Instagram, all through organic reach. Their unique methods always lead to an increased rate of organic traffic and a more rapid path to monetization down the line. These characteristics, attention to detail, and steadfast commitment to excellence lead to high net-worth individuals trusting ck media with their money and reputation. Catering to Hollywood’s elite brands and socialites, I’ve been able to build a name for myself gradually overtime, but it was by no means an easy feat. In fact, the first year and a half of the journey was extremely turbulent, even now that the business has fully matured and a lot of businesses have a greater need for an enhanced social presence, with COVID-19 the client pool is shrinking and competition has never been more fierce as more people find themselves jobless starting agencies prospecting for new leads on the daily. Along the way I’ve undoubtably learned to never be content and to always keep working towards the next best thing / echelon in life, thats crucial to becoming truly happy and fulfilled in business in the long run. It’s easy to feel like you’re ahead and that you can afford to slow down, but the truth is you have to keep moving no matter what, you can never be too big or too successful. It’s easy to dream, the most important part is execution.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
COVID-19 obviously changed my answer to this question a lot, even slowly but surely as Los Angeles starts to open up for business again, it’s with great caution. This of course doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy each other’s time and company safely from a distance or through FaceTime/Zoom. It’s hard to imagine how much we’d rely on video-calls for a sense of normalcy post-pandemic (or is it even close to being over? We’ll see) It’s nice that people have taken the initiative to find new and innovative ways to still stay connected, like hosting online concerts and events so you can at least imagine things are normal again. If things were normal again, I’d take my girlfriend to every over-priced venue she wanted to dine at in West Hollywood just out of sheer repressed desire. Outdoor dining to me doesn’t feel much safer than literally going to a party unmasked, so until things truly begin to get better, I’ll being staying inside doing the majority of my business remotely.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
