We had the good fortune of connecting with Christen Nino De Guzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christen, how does your business help the community?
I’ve spent my entire career working with content creators of all sizes from one thousand followers to millions. I’ve been involved in hundreds of sponsored campaigns with the world’s largest brands and on almost every single campaign, I saw extreme pay disparity. Many creators that I’ve worked with don’t understand how to price themselves and as a result I would see brands pay some creators 10x more than others. After seeing this issue go unsolved year after year, I decided to create my own solution.

I built Clara (ClaraforCreators.com) to allow creators to connect, share pay information, brand reviews & experiences and ultimately be discovered by top brands.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve worked at companies like Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest without having a 4.0 GPA in college or going to a top school. I didn’t have any connections or secrets to getting in. It was a lot of trial and error and a bit of luck!

Because I didn’t have any connections. I always felt like I had to work harder to prove myself.

I’ll never forget one of my first meetings at Instagram. I was in a room with 4 men, all who had gone to MIT, Harvard and top schools. I felt like the odd woman out but that feeling of being the underdog has motivated me throughout my career. It even inspired me to launch my own company!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love how scenic LA is. If I have friends in town, I will typically take them to Urth caffe for lunch then we will visit Franklin Canyon Park! I feel transported every time I go there, it’s so picturesque and it always feel like an adventure to see turtles and wildlife.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been so encouraging and supportive. I’ve also worked with a lot of powerful women who have really inspired me throughout my career. Women like Fadia Kader (Clubhouse), Alicia Romero (Estee Lauder), Isabel Quinteros Annous (TikTok) who have really made a strong impression on me.. These women are all extremely successful but also lead with kindness and empathy!

There seems to be this funny stereotype that for women to be powerful they have to be mean- or act like Meryl Streep’s character in the “Devil Wears Prada”. In my experience, it has been the complete opposite.
