We had the good fortune of connecting with Wayne Dunne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wayne, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risk is more than just a willingness to take a chance and roll the dice. It’s a willingness to take a chance but have a clear understanding of possible outcomes.
I hail from Dublin, Ireland and studied Actuarial Finance in university. I was lucky to receive a formal education in risk analysis. As an entity, risk became something to be respected & considered very carefully but not something to be feared. This played a pivotal role in my life & career.
The biggest risk I ever undertook was leaving the comfort of my beautiful home country and family to come live in the magnificent city of LA. It was nerve racking and exciting all at the same time. I’ve always had the ability to break decisions down into those which are reversible and those which are not.
The reversible decisions are the easy ones…if it goes wrong, just reverse it. The other ones, the ‘non-reversible’, are the real risks and require a lot of thought and consideration.
What should our readers know about your business?
So here’s our Mission …….’Most busy professionals believe to be in the best shape physically and mentally, you have to sacrifice your time and career. Training Loft is a personal training studio, providing results-driven individualized training and nutrition coaching. Our 30-minute sessions are as efficient as they are effective at burning fat, building muscle and regulating hormones.
An Inbody 270 machine tracks body fat, muscle mass, and metabolism. Posture screening technology assesses form and over/under active muscle groups. We exist to elevate you to your best self and do it with the biggest investment of all in mind… TIME.’
This truly captures what TL is all about…….. a collaboration of multiple wellness elements under one roof ; training, nutrition, athletic assessment & recovery services like focus stretch, sports therapeutic massage and even a strategic life coach to teach people how to heal old wounds with new tools.
Personalized Training is so much more about what’s going on in your mind than it is about pushing out your next 20 reps. Training Loft aims to address each client as a complex being with personal, physical and mental hurdles to overcome to live a happier and healthier life. Putting these elements together is challenging but so rewarding.
We put ourselves in the shoes of our clients and ask the question everyday ….’what do our clients need to be successful’….it’s never just one element like training OR nutrition……its’ a combination of factors that weave together to provide the ultimate solution to well-being.
Overcoming the challenges of creating a seamless client solution is the work of an incredible team. The coaches, nutritionist, athletic assessment and recovery team work everyday to ensure our clients undergo a life changing experience.
This is what makes my work so special.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things about this city is the endless amount of polar opposite things to do, all within a short drive of each other. Where else in the world can you surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon…..it’s mind blowing!!
If I had a friend visit for a few days, we’d kick off on Sunday with a beautiful brunch in West Hollywood’s Conservatory….the people, the food, the vibe, the music exemplify some of my favorite elements of living in West Hollywood.
From West Hollywood, we’d take the scenic spin to Saddle Ranch, Malibu and chill for the afternoon with some home grown wine and live entertainment.
To balance all that out, it’s up early the next day for a training session with one of our amazing coaches at Training Loft, followed by a hike to beautiful Griffith Park.
Watching one of the awe inspiring films in the Griffith Observatory about how we all got here in the first place is our reward for hiking the park.
Venice Beach has to be on the list of things to do in LA. The eclectic mix of artists and performers just never cease to amaze and when the hunger sets in, a delicious lunch at Urth Cafe on Main Street Santa Monica is a must!! Abbot Kinney for a coffee and a stroll browsing in some cool artsy outlets would be a beautiful end to the day.
One of my favorite things to share with friends who visit is outdoor living. Having lived here for so long I regret to admit I take this for granted now…..sitting on the dozens of open air patios in West Hollywood restaurants or bars is just a beautiful way to spend a day people watching and watch the sun go down.
No matter who’s playing at Hollywood Bowl, this is just a must. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed concerts more than those I’ve been to at the Bowl. It’s a very special place.
If I can somehow swing tickets to the Magic Castle, I think I’d send my friend home with the trip of a lifetime, exploring a snippet of this amazing city I now call home.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have contributed to my personal success and the success of Training Loft but none more so than my partner in business and in life, Stephen Kearney.
Stephen has been there through it all, talked me down off many a proverbial cliff edge and has been my rock for almost 20 years. He has supported my good ideas and brushed off my many bad ones as learning curves, has never criticized and has always encouraged our journey.
We have been through a roller-coaster ride, fun and sometimes extremely challenging and it’s far from over anytime soon…… I would not be the person I am today were it not for Stephen and I know with absolute certainty, TL would not exist today had he not been by my side!
I have been incredibly fortunate to have a very supportive and loving family and a huge part of my ability to get out there and just do it, comes from watching my incredible parents Linda & Peter do whatever it takes to succeed throughout the years.
I don’t think you can ever repay a debt like that but I hope someday I can pay it forward.
Our incredible team at TL is what makes it all possible. I have to shout out to each and every one of them……..DeMarco Majors, Matt Salem, Vince Ramos, Francis Corby, Jimmy Robles, Garrett Santi , Paul Cicero & Tammy Massman-Johnson.
On a professional level, I’ve had some really awesome mentors throughout the years, Sean Greeley from NPE & even though we’ve never met in person, Donald Miller from Business Made Simple .
