We had the good fortune of connecting with Christie Cate and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christie, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
For me, I always felt the “Anything is possible” phrase was too hard to believe. In my mind, I have always felt that anything is too broad. Instead, I discovered that allowing yourself to shine with self-love, attracts unbelievable outcomes. So I came up with the mantra, “Once you begin to shine the unfeasible becomes the inevitable.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve heard a few friends mention, “It takes seven years to make it in Hollywood.” For myself and a few of my peers, this is true. With each year, you grow a little more. In the beginning, it’s honing your acting with classes. The next few years, you’re still learning, but building relationships with your peers. From there, those connections open doors into auditions, and maybe representation. You start to book work. Then, after about seven years, you might book a project that gets traction. It may appear to be an overnight success, but for many actors, it took years and large financial investments to get there.

Seven years after I signed with my first voice over agent, I booked a lead character in a popular mobile game called Genshin Impact. Other than video games, I’ve also voiced promos, commercials, and animation for companies such as Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up in Los Angeles, but that hasn’t stopped me from trying to find new places and experiences in the area. My all time favorite place to spend the day would be Huntington Gardens. I love to stroll through all the fauna, and have a cup of tea and scones at their tea house. Depending on the time of year, I may also recommend the Renaissance Faire or Labyrinth of Jareth as a cool experience to attend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s hard to navigate a new career without a mentor. Early on in my voice over journey I was fortunate enough to meet Roger Leopardi. As someone that has worked on both sides of booth, Roger has invaluable advice for what a voice actor should be doing, and what creatives are looking for. One of the many things he helped me road map for my career was the importance of having a professional home studio. Sure enough, the second I finished creating a home studio, opportunities started pouring in. I geniely would not be where I am in my career today, if not for his guidance.
