We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Chon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My mother was an incredible strong force who battled stomach cancer. Through out some of the dark stages, my mother and I used to make these friendship bracelets and it really helped us bond and get through such a hard time. When I was pregnant with my daughter, Kono, it brought back so many memories I had with my mother of creating and building this relationship. I wanted to honor the past and the future and created Kono & Co. for the present. Although, Kono & Co. started initially by creating modern beautiful friendship bracelets, once Kono came into the world, my new inspiration has brought our collection we have today.

What should our readers know about your business?
Kono & Co. takes pride in quality. Using the best 14K Gold Filled to ensure a product that is meaningful and will last. My pieces are inspired by being a mom, so having that every day easy jewelry to wear is key. Something meaningful, effortless, and simple. I am so proud of how much Kono & Co. grew within the last few years and so excited to see where we are headed. COVID times were rough, but with such an amazing community, there are so many small businesses that were able to bloom.

The biggest thing I have learned is to stop comparing with someone else. You have your own pace. Instead of competition, lean on other small businesses. We are not here to compete and hate. Learn, grow, and support one another. There are enough obstacles in our way as a small business owner, we don’t need to be an obstacle for someone else.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Winter time in Chi. Let’s hit up the ChrisKindle Market and ice skating! Such a staple, and doesn’t get over played at all. haha

Definitely…EAT EAT EAT some good food. Fulton Area is great. The oh so famous Au Chavel, Girl and the Goat, Green Street Smoked Meats. etc etc. Eat til you feel drunk from eating too much.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
KONO. My daughter. Always gives me the strength and determination to keep going. Having a small business, you have doubts every day…but she is my every day reminder why I am doing this and why I need to keep pushing.

Through out this journey I have met some awesome other small businesses. There are SO many to list, but so very grateful to have their friendship where we can share this journey together.

COMMUNITY- COVID times were rough, but shout out to the best supporters and community for supporting small businesses and we were able to grow with you by our sides!
