We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Chen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After working for big and small companies throughout my career, starting my own business was never something I had planned. Quite honestly, it found me on its own. I had gone through a deep depression after the last startup company I had worked at. I didn’t know what my next steps were. I felt all my work experiences had led me to a dead end and no where closer to where I thought I’d be. After really doing a lot of inner work and soul searching, I started from scratch. What was my core intention in life? What were the values that mattered to me that I wanted my work to reflect? What did I want to learn? And the answer was always there, crystal clear. I’ve always wanted to connect deeply with others through vulnerability and to help others feel less alone. That answer brought me to life coaching. In learning the tools to help me grow and shift my mindset in a sustainable way, I knew this was how I could help others. That was 2 years ago. With each step, one foot in front of the other, it has quickly led me on this path of starting my own LLC while managing and growing my own business. What really excites and drives me is the fact that I keep learning so much as both a person and now a small business owner!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I definitely come from the creative world, both as a content creator as well as a fan who draws so much inspiration and joy from other creatives. Having produced numerous short films + video series as well as now hosting two podcasts, it’s been a beautiful yet challenging journey. It has taught me how to execute daydreams into reality. How do I make that vision come to life? At first as a producer, it was how do I make others’ visions a reality. Now as a content creator myself, I’ve learned how to make my dreams a reality. All of that flows and connects to me being a life coach in both coaching others’ on how to break their visions into actionable steps as well as relating my personal experience to help connect on a deeper level with them. It’s so crazy how life works itself out. The very thing I felt was wrong with me (of not feeling like I had any special skills other than to assist others), ends up being my speciality.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in the 626, I would definitely bring them to all my favorite boba cafes. We would eat everything from xiao long baos, to Korean fried chicken, and poke bowls! I always take my friends who are visiting SoCal to the beach. A long drive down Ocean Blvd with the windows down followed by watching the sunset on the beach. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely Oprah! She started me on this path of self awareness and introducing me to so many gurus and teachers in this self discovery journey. My fiancé, Jack, who without his support in every single possible way throughout these past 9 years, I definitely wouldn’t be thriving! My community which includes close personal friends, family, and the Asian American community who continue to inspire me to dig deeper and spread light!
